This makes Marion look like a bargain as he does so much more as a 20/10 player. The Magic must be under some spell... literally.

I remember Lewis being a nice player before an ankle injury(I believe). Do not know what they seem in him in the last 3 years to make them wanna dish THAT kinda cash out. Thats gonna hurt in 3 years!

Man, that hurts. I think the Suns were expecting the lux tax number to be a little higher. $9 million past the red line, another $9 million in taxes, no tax revenue coming back.

How ironic would it be if Lewis' ankle craps out again and he sits for half his contract

Yeah, and then we sign him when he is healthy in a few years - that would be even more ironic. Or is that Moronic?

Whatever happened to Lil' Penny and Shaq in Orlando not to mention Hill? Sad. :thud:

Then they invest major dollars into a marginal star like Lewis. I guess desperate people do desperate things.

I feel some empathy for the fans there.

Let's wait until we get the final numbers. Right now the rumored numbers are just rumors.

What do you mean rumored??

The number was reached after an audit of league finances and was set late Tuesday night by the players association and the league office. It will be the number teams use beginning Wednesday when a 10-day moratorium on free agent signing ends.

The mid-level exception for over-the-cap teams is $5,356,000, and the luxury tax threshold will be $67,865,000.

And, it's on the NBA.com site as well - http://www.nba.com/news/salarycap_070710.html

It's not rumor.

The tax threshold being smaller number will put even more pressure on Kerr to trim this down.

I have little doubt KT will be traded.

D'Antoni will be asked "But who will guard Duncan" and D'Antoni will spin some stuff about Amare doing a better job on Duncan blah blah blah.

If the numbers are true, it kind of sad. Lewis gets his money but becomes a league hot potato--Untradeable, not producing to the level of his contract, perceived failure even though he is a good player.

Its kind of like selling your soul to the devil.

Well I don't think Foamy wants us to be under the cap but he might want to reduce that tax number by 50%. Or Maybe the revenues justify the expenses, it's hard to tell since we don't see thier numbers.

"Foamy."

Brilliant. I just hope there isn't any stupid spin. If they trade KT, it will be for financial purposes and it will make us worse as a basketball team. End of story.

"Foamy" is a banker by trade. He knows a 50% reduction in the tax number returns double the money. You can bet it's constantly on his mind.

My father's been in real estate for 30 years. He hates talking about work when he's at home, but if he even catches a hint of the smell of a sale, the light turns on and he's in global nuclear war sales mode. Skilled habits die hard.

I think that this does put more pressure on Kerr to trim payroll. Hopefully that doesn't mean Kurt. What scares me is that the Suns will probably include a first rounder to get sweeten the pot for some team to take the contract off our hands.

I think the Suns are hoping someone picks up on Banks' play in the summer league to see if they can get any takers there too.

In this day of CBA "flexibility", you would think that it would be the Suns who were getting first round pick "bribes" for KT's expiring contract (not to mention he's a servicable player still), but the Suns fiscal conservativeness (word?) is common knowledge (see Joe Johnson).

The only way I would be happy with a KT trade would be if they made someone take Banks as well. No, Im not impressed with his summer league play and I don't think he will ever work here.

I thought it was interesting that Banks had his big game against the Cavs who need a point guard who can shoot threes. The problem is that they don't have cap space.

My preference would be for the Suns to sign PJ Brown and then hope they can make a move by the trading deadline. Trading KT before the trading deadline without a replacement in place is just insane, LT or no LT.

Welcome to the pickle jar the Suns are in. I really don't think they have any interest in PJ or will sign anyone else except another scrub if S'berry doesn't make it.

By trade deadline the Suns will have paid 2/3 of KT's salary so he will be easily tradeable. They may or may not get a big in return and will probably need to package the ATL pick to get the deal done.

The rest of the league knows the Suns situation and are in no hurry to help them. The overpay of Banks and Diaw are biting them in the arse now.
