I'm kind of surprised that I couldn't find a thread on this. I've been off injured, and I was looking for shows to stream on Netflix. I found this to be excellent and a lot of fun.

I don't want to ruin anything about the show, so I won't give a synopsis. Suffice to say, this is a good watch.

I watched the first season. I thought it was just okay; worth watching, but I don't miss it either.

I watch it regularly. It's actually a very intriguing show, especially when you consider that 75% of it is filmed in green screen. They've got bigger budgets now, but the 1st season was almost completely filmed on green screen.

Yeah, I watch it regularly also. I like the show but I've never adjusted to the 2nd season cast change. It's not as good as Eureka but it is better than most SyFy shows.

I hear you on the cast change, although the new girl is a MUCH better actress than the girl who played Magnus' daughter. She was terrible.

The show always picks up when Druitt appears on the show, and he'll be appearing for the first time this season tomorrow night.

She wasn't much as an actress but I thought her role was more believable and more useful. Also, she was pretty cute. I do like the episodes with the characters from the original "blood" group, even the ones with Tesla. The current story arc (hidden city) also has my interest and I'm curious to see how her father and perhaps Druitt fit in with this story.

Well, I actually think Kate is pretty cute too (I could never deal with Ashley's bangs-lol), although I could have done without the episode where the suit made her a catwoman wannabe. The last episode (where Magnus was stuck in the building with Jeckyll/Hyde was pretty damn good).

I agree last weeks episode was a very good one; I was including that one as part of the current story arc about the lost city.

Yeah, the only real issue I had with that episode was with the directing, specifically of Adam when he's completely covered in his suit and mask. He was a very demonstrative character, and he was directed like he was in silent movies, with big and exaggerated movements. Made it border on ridiculous watching it. I will say that Amanda Tapping is one of the best and most underrated actresses working on television. I never saw her on Stargate, so this is my first exposure to her.

Argh, are these spoilers just about Sanctuary, or about the other show too? I want to read them but I don't want anything given away about a show I haven't watched yet lol

Only about Sanctuary--mainly about changes between seasons 1 and 2. We weren't sure if you had gotten that far, so we spoilered.

I'm off work on disability, so yeah, I had time to watch them all :D

I agree with a lot of what was said in the spoilers, but I thought for a while it was a mistake to kill of her daughter. I wonder if it was an acting conflict? Who played her daughter?

Also, I agree very much that the episodes with the original 5 are better. I prefer shows that follow larger plot arcs, and don't much go for shows that are simply episode to episode, like Law and Order.

Killing her off was certainly a surprise, but I'm not unhappy they did it. Like I said, she was such a terrible actress and IMO that's why they killed her off. It also gave Magnus a character aspect that she didn't have before.

This surprises me. I know Stargate isn't for everyone but of all the shows that were allowed to run their course, this one is probably my favorite. It's more likely to appeal to the viewer that likes his good guys to wear white hats but I would expect Buffy and Firefly fans to enjoy it thoroughly.

I was really never into shows on cable (except for the HBO shows--Carnivale, Deadwood and Rome) until the last few years (starting with the last season of Battlestar). And there seemed to be so many Stargate shows that it was difficult to tell what was what. Besides, I don't think the movie was all that great, so I found no reason to watch the TV shows.

I like the TV show quite a bit more than the movie but, obviously, there are enough similarities that you might not like the TV show any better. The TV show introduces some new characters, changes the overall mythology and really takes off, IMO. If I were you, I'd watch the first season and see if the humor works for you. If it doesn't, it'll probably come off much like the movie did.

It's Stargate SG-1 season 1 with MacGyver, right? If you know my TV on DVD collection, the last thing I need is another tv show to watch. :D

That's the one. And I know what you mean about TV on DVD, I've recently started trying to NOT buy every single thing that comes out on DVD. I'm literally out of room. I've recently made the switch to Netflix and I'm hoping it will ease the burden on my wallet and my living space. I don't know if Stargate will work for you but if it does, I suspect it will become one of your favorites.

I'll see if I can track it down.

To give you an idea, I have literally hundreds of TV shows on DVD. (I have a huge, huge DVD/Blu-Ray collection) Including Sanctuary Seasons 1 & 2. :D
