I don't want the Lakers to trade Shaq if they do they will be able to rebuild the team with young talent and be good again.... Can someone please not let this happen. I would much rather see a cash straped Lakers team with Shaq and no Kobe than anything.

I think you will see both Shaq & Kobe on the Lakers next year.

I really don't see how Shaq can force a trade. His $30 million/year contract is veritably untradeable. Any team acquiring him would have to fork over $30 million worth of players. How does a normal team do that without depleting their own roster? Even if they did, Shaq wouldn't go to a rebuilding team with a junk roster of leftovers from the trade. If you round up all of your junk L.A. won't take it. Miami could send Brian Grant @ $16 million and Eddie Jones @ $15 million, but I don't think LA would take those 2. Shaq could retire if he doesn't like it, but he would leave $ 60 million on the table. Not gonna happen, in my mind.

I've heard about the Dallas rumor. But it would be Shaq and Nowitzki left on that roster if the deal was made. Nash and Finley would have to go to LA with about 3 other players.

as i look into my crystial ball looking for the future of the laker, here is what i see:

shaq gets traded to the knicks. they are the only ones who are far enough over the cap to take him. but the lakers really dont get anything for him beside kurt thomas

kobe is resigned by the laker shortly after FA signings begin. the real problems wait until the trail starts for kobe and the jury hands in a conviction and kobe is given 10 years for the rape.

at this point the lakers are in full rebuilding mode with almost nothing to build around. the lakers replace the clippers as the nba's worst team.

can I ask what this is based on? I mean the Blazers and Mavs are also WAYYYY over the cap with more tradeable parts than the Knicks - I mean - I'm not even sure what to make of the above sentence - Shaq gets traded for steaming hot garbage? Can you give reasons why to the above because I'm having problems making sense of it.

on the right team, in the right system, with a motivational coach likey rudy t, steaming hot garbage could be an all-star. the talent is undeniably there.
