Just got the text message that Max Scherzer has been inserted into the rotation. I'm assuming he will take E Gon's place. I can't wait to watch this kid.

KTAR's Dave Burns reported this

Yep, just reported it on D'backs pregame. Edgar will be bumped.

wow that was fast but if he looks as good as he did last night in his next few outings it will be well worth it :)

I'm really glad. Like I said in one of my earlier posts, Scherzer should have been there right when he was called up. Edgar is not a starter, a long reliever at best.

It's too bad he made his debut while the Suns were on. I wish I had seen it...sounds like he was dominant.

This team could be scary good if he pitches near the level he did last night.

Nice, I figured he would eventually get a chance to start but I didn't really think it would be this soon.

I did.

Now, he'll have his bumps and slides -- he himself said he has a load to learn yet. Think of Webb's first couple years, and Micah is still very much a work in progress -- as are all our young players. But they are this good already, so we have to be OK riding out the rough spots and not start screaming about trades for old or 'proven' guys.

Does anyone here irrationally start screaming for trades or demotions through tough stretches? That doesn't sound like something that would be on a message board.

On point, I think this is a smart move by whomever made it. Having the kid work through his growing pains should be fine with the way this team is playing.

I DVR'd the game and flipped through to see what he's got. For someone who just got called up, he's un-freakin'-believable. Great command, stays low in the zone, five-alarm fastball with a killer change-up, changes speeds well, works with his catcher ... wow, what a debut.

The challenge for any pitcher with this kind of talent called up is staying on top of the scouting reports and being able to make adjustments. Eventually someone's going to get a book on him that works. He's got to show he's a student and not fall into the trap of "I've made it and it's always going to be this easy."

By the way he pitches, I'm guessing we shouldn't worry too much. He looked like the 3rd best pitcher on the staff right now, with the ability to crank it up more. Frankly, I'd be tempted to make him the closer just because it'd mean he'd get to impact that many more games.

I was fortunate enough to see his debut in person. And while I have heard lots of good things about him and knew what he was doing down in AAA, I couldn't help but find myself impressed by how well he pitched. If he pitches just as well on Monday as he did the other day, I don't see why we shouldn't consider giving him a permanent spot in the rotation (or, as Gaddabout said, have him be our closer so he can make that much more of an impact).

He does look like a natural closer. With the stuff he has he could be like another Hoffman. But they need a starter right now.

I was lucky enough to have great seats for that game, and he looked great, I hope he can keep it up.

He looks a little violent with his delivery to be a rotation guy, IMO. That is probably why so many baseball guys are/were undecided about his role.

his stuff is nothing like hoffman's, except for the fact that its good.
