Hardly. Neither one of them played anywhere close to a full season for the Bulls and Edwards didn't even play half a season. As Bulls, Parish played 18 minutes total in the playoffs and Edwards logged a grand total of 28. Hardly the stuff of legends or even "5th piece of the lineup". And we had plenty of stiffs on our bench the equal of Parish and Edwards at that stage of their careers. In 76 for example we had Dennis Awtrey and Dale Schlueter, both legit sized role playing centers. Also, notice he said they played for the Bulls AFTER they retired.

Steve
OK, almost always included one, and sometimes two, legitimate Centers. It was the rule during the Bulls championships rather than the exception.

No. He needs to go into negotiations with his best idea of what the car is worth, and not pay more than that. If it turns out later that his assessment was way off, that's an assessment error, but not a negotiation error. They're different skills. If you make negotiation errors in order to try to offset assessment errors that you may or may not have made, you'll never have any idea what you're doing. If you screw up, figure out exactly where you screwed up, and try to learn from the mistake.
That may be a good point for buying a used car. But, as all metaphors, it applies a different topic.

In buying a used car, the car is the result within itself. Most individuals don't have a fleet of five cars.

In a team sport such as basketball, sometimes an extra investment in one piece is done to make the whole (five positions) more efficient. Not just one position.

Revisionist history. He was available for 5 and 50, and Sarver cheaped out over 5 million. Joe ended up with 5 and 72 in the offseason, which seems to quite clearly indicate that $50 mil was more than fair.

Not revising. Sarver would have matched. I think about half way into the following season jj was regetting his choice.

I always figured that what ticked Joe off was the Suns acquiring Quentin Rickardson. IIRC correctly they paid Q 45 million for 4 seasons, so a higher yearly salary than Joe or maybe it was 50 for 5, but either way it was more.

And we traded away a pick that would have been either Deng or Iggy so we could sign Q to that deal... HUZZAH!

Look at clip 2005 inside the Suns and see Joe Johnson face look. He had same problem as Marion with his attitude (JJ wanted his team after 1 good season.)

Marion was pissed because some stupid dolls of Nash and Amare for god sake.

Are you suggesting that was a major issue with him? That didn't matter. Dude was tired of playing 3rd fiddle and felt like he wasn't getting his due. That was complete bull but that was widely reported how he felt.

Yes because he was highest paid Suns player and he wanted 20 mil per year, he refused to go to Boston (Suns could have KG,) and similar crap.

And JJ was was angry because he didnt signed contract for 50 mil. when he could get 70 from Suns and they was hottest team in NBA (no reason to be angry at all.)

And people wonder why Suns didnt won ring with no gm, injuries, suspensions and imature stars.

Just wanted to follow up with something: I think what the Suns/Johnson negotiations really showed was that both sides were ambivalent about continuing the long-term relationship. Had the Suns wanted Johnson when talks first started, they would have just overpaid him and worried about the fallout later, the way they did with Marion. Instead, they weren't really that sure they wanted him -- his performance was a lot less consistent than some on this board seem to remember, especially before his contract year -- and it was becoming increasingly clear that Johnson wasn't thrilled about staying in Phoenix either. In the end, it's simpler to say that it was all about the money, but in fact the money wasn't the real issue.

They were in the same situation that okc was with Harden. They had too many players at the max or near max. DNash, Amare, Marion, and then JJ. In retrospect they needed all those players to compete but really could not afford them and could not keep them happy. Their max players all had flaws that doomed the situation. Amare did not play d or rebound very well. Neither did Nash. So they had to make up their value with offensive efficiency. Marion and JJ played d but resented the fact that they were not first or second options on offense. Amare's attention seeking (and getting) made it all worse. It was a bad mix of arrogant insecure people. Nash held it together amazingly well considering. It would have been worse without ssol. That at least allowed more touches and more scoring for everyone.

Can't agree with this as far as being in the same situation as OKC. Amare hadn't gotten his MAX contract when JJ's extension was being negotiated, Nash at 11 per was nowhere near the MAX either...and JJ wasn't looking for the Max...he was looking for 5 (or was it 6) for 50. Something JC KNEW and pushed for Sarver to spend, but didn't happen.

We can bemoan not signing JJ all we want, but there is no way Joe Johnson would have remained a Sun for the duration of the contract. For all intents and purposes, he would have been gone by the next trade deadline.

It was painfully obvious that he wanted a bigger role, just as it was obvious that the "man" on our team was Amare. That's just a fact. Joe Johnson might have signed the extension but he would not have been happy. He would have demanded a trade anyway.

Damn this thread went from Kevin Love to Tyson Chandler to max contracts to whether or not stars would sign in PHX cause of Sarver and now to Joe Johnson.

Only 8 pages of this 20 page thread actually discussed the topic at hand; Scola traded for Green, Plumlee, '14 first round pick

:p
