It shall be interesting to see if the guys who are scouting now will be around to make a selection during the draft.

My guess would be yes. Steve Keim (Director of College Scouting) is pretty damned good at what he does.

Yep it's looking more and more like Keim is one of the few guys around worth keeping around.

Lets hope this guy is the next Orlando Pace....

I think we'd know if he was the next Orlando Pace by now - no one had ever seen anything like Pace in college - the guy was not only the sure fire number one pick, but he was even being talked about the Heisman Trophy Winner - which is something theat NEVER happens with an offensive linemen.

My guess, we'll take him... and he'll suck.

I'd rather have the next Ogden, Pace is too much of a pain in contract negotiations.

Russ:

Frustrating to know that we could've had this Ogden, had the Cards front-office not blown another draft-day decision. Hardly matters, though, since he probably would've underperformed and left in free agency before going to a couple of Pro Bowls and earning a championship ring with another team.

Waitaminnit, I'm thinking of the guy we did take in that draft... ;)

I said in another thread, the times I have seen Thomas, he hasn't really impressed me. Leave it to the Cards to go scout him the weekend they play U of Buffalo. He will look dominant in this game.

One game that I watched (against Penn State I think it was...I have seen 4 Wisconsin games this year) he got his ass beat all game.

I've seen Wisconsin several times on ESPN and he looked very good. Hopefully he will be in the senior bowl. That would give us a good idea of his skills.

thats the problem....right now Thomas is NOT worth a #1 overall

he is nowhere near as dominating as Pace was in college

if the Cards are slotted (after a possible trade down) 4th or lower, he's probably a good pick, but at #1, no way

We could always trade down for another second round pick. Then even if Thomas is gone we could pick up some O-Line in the second round and take defense in the first.

the only defense for that pick was that the rumor was Ogden told the Cards don't pick me, I won't sign. He denies it, but it was the rumor I remember waking up that morning to watch the draft and hearing them talk about the rumor. I still thought we should take Ogden, but Rice was a good player, just a jerk.

Ogden of course is a HOF LT.

WRS Chris Chambers and Lee Evans are both doing well.

There are a few OTs that will/might be first rounders - Sam Baker, Levi Brown, Doug Free, Jake Long & Jared Gaither. This is a good draft for OTs.

Leads me to believe that at least one of these guys will slip into the second round for us. I'm okay with going OT, OT because you know it's probably at best 50/50 that the guy will work out for us.

But, I'm also okay with taking Peterson in the first and and OT in the second.

I agree. If we are sitting at #1 and we can't trade the pick, take Peterson or maybe even the WR from Georgia Tech. If we were to have a GM and a coach that knew what they were doing, our OL would be improved enough to be decent next year.

3 of those are underclassmen, and 2 of the 3, Baker and Long, have already said they are staying. Do I believe them, not necessarily, that happens every year but rarely do they actually stay when they realize how much money they can make.

It sure sounds like Gaither will be in the draft, the more I read on that kid the more I think we need to find a way to get him by moving down, he just screams Eric Swann on the OL in terms of raw talent and athleticism, hopefully without all the knee problems. Thomas has already had major knee surgery. Free is very interesting to me.

Yep we have to remember with a new coaching staff and hopefully a GM, its' entirely likely whoever they are won't like our personnel as much as DG does. Maybe they WANT to trade someone at WR, or RB etc? The worst thing they could do is come in and try to make Green's personnel fit their own system. If they feel Johnson or Peterson is the best player and they can't get good value in a trade down, take them, and figure out what to do next.
