For what it's worth, the Arizona Cardinals are good hosts. It's a credit to the Bidwill family that they've built a nice game-day atmosphere. I took my 9 year-old son to the game yesterday. The tailgating seemed to be at least 60% Seattle fans, which wasn't great. We wandered over to the Flight Deck tailgate party and found a nice, family-friendly area that was extremely low-key and sparsely populated, but had good food and a nice place to hang out with some other fans. Whoever is arranging this is doing a good job.

David Johnson - The haters are going to hate, but David Johnson had nearly 140 yards from scrimmage and was the only source of big plays in the offense yesterday. He was also effective sealing the safety when blocking.

Chase Edmonds - The 2 RB set was awesome! Chase Edmonds provides a nice spark out of the backfield and is a more dependable 3rd down blocker than David Johnson right now. His playing time may continue to increase as the roster of pass catchers continues to sort itself out.

Maxx Williams
- The double-X factor probably never expected to find himself split outside as often as he was this week. It's possible that the Cards most effective personnel package is 21 personnel with only one RB in the backfield.

D.J. Swearinger - At only 28 years old, he should be entering his prime, but his play has been so bad since he returned to Arizona that I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he gets released on Tuesday. The expectation was that playmaking from the safety position would make up for inexperienced corners hasn't come to life.

Jordan Hicks - The middle of this defense is soft, and Corey Peters gets some responsibility for that, but so does Hicks, who has failed to deliver on his promise as a playmaker and is more of a complementary piece on a defense that desperately needs another playmaker.

Zane Gonzales - This is probably regression to the mean for a kicker that isn't good enough to help a playoff team but is fine for a team who would finish around 7-9. Unfortunately, this is a team who needs a dependable anchor to deliver points when a young offense bogs down.

Did the Future of Football Arrive?
Larry Fitzgerald passed Tony Gonzales for #2 all time in receptions, but (1) stadium operations misspelled the tight end's name on the first card they put up to celebrate Larry's tie and (2) Fitzgerald took a backseat on offense until the game was basically out of hand. Fitz was on the sideline for 10 of the Cards' 63 offensive snaps and was sent to the sideline when the Cards went to their 21 personnel package. I think this offense is going to give people trouble, and I think this offensive line is good enough. The problem is that the wide receivers aren't good, and this offense is predicated on some wide receiver being able to beat single coverage sometimes.

Kingsbury has compensated by putting in heavy groups like the 21 personnel package and then spreading the field out of it to hopefully create some personnel mismatches. I love the creativity and problem-solving.

I think with Gonzales, it was more of a new holder then anything. We all hear how kickers are sticklers when it comes to a person holding the ball for them.

I give the kicker a pass because of the new holder.

While DJ did block for that TD run, his block was as soft as it gets. he had a great game outside of that.

I think we should run the 2rd backfield full time. They are both solid catchers and playmakers and hav ing them on the field poses a lot of problems for the defense.

Especially if kirk will be out, I would totally run 2rd far more often.

Swearinger sucks.

Jones, Suggs and Murphy seem to be the only good players on our defense.

Shlereth noted Seattle wanted to attack underneath coverage.

That an indictment of Reddick, Hicks and Swearinger -- the guys who should be tracking middle of the field

Everything THIS! I really hope Kingsbury sees the impact that TE size can have in spread formations at the NFL level and upgrades the position moving forward. It wouldn't shock me if he added a FB at some point next year for the personnel decision it forces the opposing defense to make.

If Kirk is out, I expect to see more of Chase and Isabella to fill those snaps.

Thanks for the write up.

I like David Johnson making the list. 3.6 YPC is not amazing, but he ran pretty hard, and carried tacklers forward with him a couple of times yesterday. Very, very sure handed in the passing game too.

I'm totally guessing, but I thought yesterday he played with the most emotion and effort that I've seen from his so far this season.

Stubborn, I know, but I haven't quite given up on him as our feature back. Almost, but not quite.

I would almost be tempted to put Isabella in there too, and it's unfair, because he's just not ready to do what we need him to do. With Byrd out he had to play more so he wasn't returning KO's. So what did he do, ran a bunch of fake reverses. the one time he got the ball it appeared live there was an immediate hole(it was an inside handoff on the reverse and seemed to surprise Seattle) but Andy waited too long to decide to turn upfield. He had a nice run but it actually looked like there was more yards if he turned it up quicker. it came back because of a hold and IMO the entire reason for the hold was he waited too long to turn upfield so the blocker(think it was a TE) just decided to help him and held.

He's fast, if Kirk is out we need him, but right now he just looks like he doesn't want to get hit and as a result it's limiting his ability to get on the field. Honestly we're better with DJ as a hybrid WR and Chase at RB.

Isabella played 8 snaps yesterday. If Kirk and Fitz are in the slots, there's no where for him to play.
