I think Ryan might even have gotten a first down on that third down play if he had run it. Richard Sherman, leaving the field, looked to me like he knew he got away with one there.

Oh I agree he knew he stole one. He was lucky that the official was in such a position that he couldn't see JJ's right arm.

Was it the NFLs love affair that prevented Ice from running for the first down the play before? Then it's only second down instead of turn the ball over on downs. ALT put themselves in that position and they lost. One non-call didn't cost them the game. Also if you think games are fixed then why watch or do you like professional wrestling too?
It certainly cost them the oportunity to win the game. Nothing happens in a vaccum, but to excuse horrible officiating using this logic is what allows the refs to never have to get better at their job. It shouldn't come down to one call, but it did. It's stupid flawed logic that refs should "swallow the whistle" as to not affect the game because that very inaction does exactly that. Seattle always seems to be the beneficiary of this nonsense and at some point it's more than just a coincidence... it's either implicit or blatant bias.

WOW! Watching it again really makes it worse to know that Sherman got away with that tackle!

Who says the ref "swallowed the whistle"? I say he possibly couldn't see it as he was blocked by the Sherm's body, or the fact that he is human and therefore prone to make mistakes. It's easy to sit back and watch the replay on TV and tell someone they blew a call, it's an entirely different situation to make that judgment based on one view in one window of time. If that were PP21 we'd be glad they didn't call it and Seattle fan would be saying they always get the calls their the darlings of the NFL. It goes both ways00.

Still not as bad as the Jersey pull against the Stealers last year.

You cant let games in Seattle go down to the end because the officials are forsure influenced by that crowd.

Every team gets away with calls every now and again. The Seahawks seem to benefit the most from obvious blown calls towards the end of games. Like, not even "50/50" calls, calls where there's only one logical outcome.

Yup... and you just know that had that been PP21 instead of Sherman, there would've been laundry all over the field...

absoulely terrible call

a couple factors:

1. Give Sherman credit -- his grab was done with the right amount of subtlty -- just enough to let him slow Jones down AND keep that arm pinned -- but not enough to be obvious

2. Jones played it straight and got hosed for it: how many times have we seen WRs exaggerate the reaction to try to draw a penalty? Jones could have gone down with Sherman all over him and the ref would have had no choice to but to throw the flag --

instead, Jones tries to play through with one hand --- and in doing so it made Sherman's grab less obvious.

Yep, I thought it was more of a condemnation that Julio tried to play "through it" rather than against it. If he sold the hold better, PI would have been surely called. The default mechanism to play the Seahawks is literally to play (down) to their level to get these subtle calls.

Instances like this make me glad that Floyd, Brown, etc. look for the PI call on long passes, although one could argue it would have been the same outcome had we played yesterday in Seattle. Totally sucks that this lame non-call could have severe playoff implications moving forward.

The Seattle fans on my other forum are saying that in the beginning of the play, Jones hit Sherman on the helmet and that should have been called, but that was within the 5 yards.

Hags fans don't bother learning the rules because they don't apply to the team.

He clearly did I've seen it on youtube now.

I'm not sure how the rule actually goes, Seattle fans are calling it a headslap because they know that's against the rules even at the LOS. I would call it a stiff arm but it's still a penalty if you think the stiff arm makes contact with the face enough to be illegal hands to the face. Full speed I don't think it does but I do think if they had called that penalty it would have been somewhat legit.

But clearly Sherman got away with a much more obvious one. The Seahawk argument is if Jones doesn't do that, Sherman isn't trying to catch up and committing PI himself.

Truth is Seattle has been luckier than a dog with two peckers, in a double row of trees! You know it, we know it!

That doesn't take away from the fact that Seattle is a good team, but only a fool would think that they haven't gotten more than their fair share of call and non-calls.

Julio slaps him and Sherman slaps him back more aggressively, illegal but within five yards and moot to the pass interference which happens later... to be frank, Sherman is not the athlete Jones is and one on one Sherman cannot mirror Julio and anyone with a brain knows this and the reason why Sherman had no option but to mug him, and Sherman himself knows this and one of the reasons Sherman did not go high in the draft

Well Sherman is allowed to hand fight within 5 yards of the LOS. Julio is NOT allowed to stiff arm him like that. I agree it was PI but if you're a Seattle fan the argument is that the primary reason Sherman did that is he was playing catchup the whole play and he was playing catchup because he lost his balance when Julio did that coming off the LOS.

Sherman is one of my hits, I didn't think he was going to be this good but I did tag him before the draft as a guy the Cards should look at because he was a converted WR and it was obvious he had really good hands and instincts and looked like he might win up being a decent NFL nickel back. He's been much more although I do think some of that is system related. If you put Sherman on the Cards the last few years he'd either get tons of penalties for holding or he'd get burned over and over with all the 1 on 1 coverage with no safety over the top the way PP has to play. He's a terrific zone CB, not sure he'd be special in man.

I know lots of people hate Sherman but I love the guy. People judge him on all the talking and yapping but he's an exceptionally bright guy. He didn't get out of Compton to Stanford just on football he was actually a very smart kid and he's one of those people who says things that make you think. But the way he says them unfortunately sometimes gets more attention than what he says and lessens the impact.

I know a couple of people who knew him at Stanford and said people there actually loved the guy, and not just athletes and coaches, professors, other students etc.

I have a STRONG dislike for Pete Carroll but I really like Sherman.

If Sherman would have not struck back at the line, then I would put some emphasis on it but both players took head shots without the ball in their hands and that is illegal, they let them play within five yards and Sherman lost footing with Jones because he is faster and more agile. What makes Sherman good is that for all his talk, he is a technician with what he has and actually his game reminds me a lot of Aeneas Williams and that is a compliment

Agreed, I can appreciate the man, but not his antics. I do think the antics are just his shtick though, but I think it's all in fun and games. I think him and PP21 twitter battles were all in good fun, and believe that they have respect for each other.

That's easy. You were playing the Stealers.
No doubt. That one was tough to take.
For me, I am an old school guy that prefers fewer flags (yeah, I know it goes both ways) and there were many non calls on both sides in the Sea vs Atl game. The last play was magnified because...it was the last chance for Atl to win. I give credit to the refs for not throwing a flag at every opportunity. Let the boys play!
