The 49ers are a paper tiger who hasn't played anyone good yet and whose quarterback isn't asked to do anything. Alex Smith is without question an inferior quarterback to Kevin Kolb.
All very true and well said. I take that back. They played one decent team and lost.

Answering the OP, hell no the season's not over. The NFL chnages week to week. After the Cards beat the steelers, they will be 2 back with 10 games to play and 2 against SF. The whiners will likely be 5-5 by time they play the Cards and finish with 3 of 4 on the road. The Cards finish with 4 of 5 at home. Pitt is a key game,. They win that, which they will, and beat St.Louis in 3 weeks, they are 3-5 and right in it for this crap division. St.Louis still isn't even out of this division.

We are also a few bad play-calls, an overturned fumble, and a pair of offensive tackles from 5-0. So?

You forgot a secondary and a couple of pass rushers.

Sunday's performance vs Minnesota was the most discouraging I've seen in a long time. Worse than the NE snow game because vs NE the Cards weren't really trying. Sunday they got hammered because they aren't any good.

huh? both Cincy and Tampa are 3-1 outside of their losses to the Niners and the Niners haven't just beaten teams, they've actually pulverized some squads. The idea that they played one decent team and lost seems like someone who just can't admit they're wrong.

first, the Niners only have 4 games between now and when they play us, so they can't really be 5-5, can they? and against that schedule that goes:

@ Detroit
v. Cleveland
@Washington
v. NY Giants

you're assuming they only one of those games? Why? the Giants haven't been that impressive and that's a home game for the Niners where they've been pretty damn good. That looks like 2-2 at worst for me, which puts them at 6-3 by the time they play us... at home... where we haven't won since 2008.

and finish with 3 of 4 on the road.

yeah, but those three games on the road are against three of the most pathetic teams in the league... Seattle, the Rams and us. not sure that's such a killer.

If we beat Pitt, I'll think that we're back in it. If we lose then yes the season is over. JMO.
Yamon, and we aint looking to hot for that match up. First part of the season has been pretty brutal, it would take a lot of change to bounce back from this start...change is not our thing. That's why I really wish it was working right now, but it aint. We showed glimpses of change at the beginning but then them same old plays started getting called on first and long and on third and short...we run the same plays. I am hoping for some progress from the defense and Kolb this year.

I used to be an A's fan too until Charlie O stole away the greatest college baseball coach in the history of the world (maybe even the universe). ASU baseball has never been the same. OTOH, I always got a kick out of Mr Finley's antics. He made George S look like a sane boss (just ask Mike Andrews).

I assume they only win 1 of those because I'm not convinced they are any good yet. I meant 5-5 after the Cards beat them.
Also, they pulverized one team, TB, who were coming off their 1st Monday night game in years and heading out west on a short week. They laid down. Besides TB and Cincy are not that good anyway. Seattle stinks, and Philly forgot there were 4 quarters in a game. I give them credit for winning and accepting gifts, they're just not that good. The best game they have played, they lost to Dallas. They should have won that one.

Nah, the greatest college baseball coach of all time was Bobby Winkles. He's so famous that I figure you're just jerking my chain. Actually, he was really hired away by the Angels but I was convinced he was coming back to ASU until Charlie O seduced and then destroyed him so I always blame Finley. IIRC, Bobby replaced the same Manager that replaced him a few years later. Coincidentally, it was Dick Williams that replaced him for the Angels.

And so I won't get accused of being off-topic - no, the season isn't over for the Cardinals. In fact, we still have 11 glorious games in front of us. The pain is just beginning.

Man, great call. Three games at 10 a.m. and they've won all of them. Mentally tough, physically tough. Game on the line, and they go right down the field and score a TD on 4th down.

What a scrub.

The San Francisco 49ers have beaten the #4 and #6 scoring defenses in the NFL. But I guess they haven't played anyone and are going to get rocked by the teams in their division like the Rams, Cards, and Seahawks.

How wrong you are. The 49'ers will have this division clinched before any other NFL team.

looks like you were totally right. Beating two 4-2 teams and and a previously 5-0 team is really "just not that good." i mean, you can just admit you're wrong at any point because you're starting to make yourself look foolish and me feel terrible for defending the Niners.

3.5 games behind. Pittsburgh next. Then 4 of 5 on the road including trips to Baltimore and Philly.

It ain't over 'til it's over but the Cards season has been moved to the ICU.

I said they may start to change my mind if they won today. They're starting to. Don't think they are, by any means, a complete team. Breaks are going their way right now and they're capitalizing on them.

I give them credit for a good win. Of course they were greatly aided by bad non PI call when Detroit had the ball. They still made the plays afterward though. You're not singing Alex Smith's praises are you? I guess you thought Trent Dilfer was great too because that's how they're using him.

Absolutely correct. He was not only a great coach but he brought much excitement to the game for both the fans and the players. I have never felt so much excitement for the game of baseball since his departure from ASU.

Seriously?? Aside from some short-comings with Smith, and some injuries that leave them thin at WR, what else are your issues with this team? They control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. They have better than good linebacker play. And they have a better than good rushing game and a great combo between Gore the pounder/slasher and Hunter who adds quickness/speed and agility.

And I won't even begin to get into the difference(uh - CHASM) in coaching!

I only wish the Cards were as "incomplete" as the 9ers... :bang:

Plenty of teams have started hot at the start of the season and faded. CBus is perfectly right in his mind to continue doubting the 49ers.

is he perfectly right to say they've beaten no one good when they've beaten a 4-2 team and a 5-1 team on the road and destroyed another 4-2 team by 45 points while they're lone loss came after blowing a 14 point fourth quarter lead?

Do you think the 4-2 Bengals are any good? I have given the 49ERS credit for their win yesterday. I watched almost the entire game and there weren't too many breaks that went against them, and that has been the case most of the year. They are a well coached, good defensive-minded team. There's nothing wrong with that. However, they are going to have to score to beat the elite teams and that's where they are lacking. Hence, my doubts about them and call them an incomplete team. They're a decent that has things going their way and are taking advantage of them. If the Cards had gotten a few breaks and were sitting at 4-1, I wouldn't be talking them up either because I wouldn't think they were all that great either.
I think a good comparison for SF is the Chiefs last year. I never thought they were very good but they won the weak division.

I think it is fair to say that the 49ers have had a great start to the season , and that also they will hit the wall at some point.

The question is , are the Cards good enough to capitalise on when the 49ers hit their bad streak and regain lost ground?

In what I've seen so far, and with the mounting injury problems , I really don't think so. :(

Unfortunately for us they only play 2 teams that would be considered elite. Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

They have 2 vs mid level teams NYG and Washington and 5 vs the woeful West.

8 remaining games vs the bottom 11 NFL teams in average points per game.

Doesn't look good for us since we now have to win at least 4 more games than they do to catch up. If they go 4-6 we have to finish 8-3. :(

The season is not over but the playoff hunt likely is. Ignoring the rest of the games, I think the Cardinals would probably have to beat San Francisco twice and sneak in as the division winner. But I see no reason to think this is a real possibility.

If a 6-6 team is still "in it," we have to go 5-2 just to get there. That's at least a victory against SF and two against the Rams. Doesn't look likely.
