Plot Summary: "Selma" is the story of a movement. The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay's "Selma" tells the story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history.

This was pretty awesome. The bridge scenes were incredible. Also enjoyed hearing some of the strategy involved on the political side of things. The guy playing MLK, Jr. did a great job.

Parts of this were awesome, especially the depiction of MLK, and the interactions b/ween Johnson and Wallace. The problem I had with this movie is that it was more like a series of vignettes strung together than a strong, interconnecting plot.

Powerful. A toss up between this and Whiplash for best movie of 2014.

Really? I agree that it was extremely powerful in parts, but thought it was too meandering to be a great movie.

I was completely hooked. Didn't get the same vignettes feeling you did. Thought it was all about the political process and each step that had to be taken in order to get the Voting Rights Act (which for reasons completely confusing has been rolled back in recent years) enacted.

 Each part was well done and well acted, no doubt about it.

Really? What aspects. And please present facts from unbiased sources.
