Long time Phoenician!
Quite a different batting order than the Mendoza Line crew we trotted out during the first half of the season.
And a pretty good starting pitcher rotation. And the best bullpen we've had all season.
Kudos to the D-backs for going for it this season. We still talk about the Championship year, especially with Gonzo and R.J. involved and visible with the team.
And, unless we're hit with injuries during the rest of the season, we can be proud of our team. Come to think of it, we were inundated with injuries to our sluggers and pitching staff for the first half and we stayed on top.
This is a fun season! Go D-backs!

1-1 in the 4th. Two top Pitchers. But the D-backs are leaving too many runners in scoring position.
Wow. So much for the new bull pen pitchers they got. Then TJ decides he just wants to clear the bases. 
And you have the Dodgers having batting practice against the brewers. Dbacks left 10+ on base and can only score one run. Amazing.

Like I said, it’s foolish to think this team is championship caliber, let alone playoff potential...

I'm still glad they weren't. Hate when a team gives up.
It's just one game, the first game with the team whole. They aren't championship caliber but the NL West is still wide open. We will know more over the next 10-15 games.

By not “giving up” this year, they “gave up” for the next 3-4 years... Had they “gave up” this year, they could’ve been contenders over the next 3-4 years... Oh well...
To me, it's always an iffy thing going into a new season. Who knows what happens during an off season. We know where they are right now, still in the playoff hunt so like I said, glad they didn't give up this year.

New/returned relief pitchers get tagged in their first game getting used to a new catcher and the sky is falling?
I predicted a split in the 2- and 4-game series. We split the 2-game series.
And we lost the first game of the 4-game series. Let's see what happens in the remaining three games vs. the Giants.
The Suns hadn't made the playoffs for eight seasons, tanked, finished last and lucked out with the #1 pick, who will make an impact next season.
This is Major League baseball and the draft is not the same. Even with tonight's loss, we're one game out of first place. One game!
Sinking to the bottom now because Pollock and Corbin will be free agents next year won't make it better.

You don’t know what we could’ve gotten in return for Pollack and Corbin. It’s not draft picks... It could’ve been top-tier young talent. Likely unproven in the bigs, but no doubt light years ahead of what sits down the road for this team...
But hey, we can enjoy the coming roller coaster ride as we travel the ups and downs of a post season chase over the next 2 months. Which could very easily result in no post season at all... And then next season, when this team is struggling to win 70 games, many will look back and wonder why the team let top-tier talent walk away with nothing in return... Thrilling...

You predicted a split, at home, against a team that is 10 games below .500.
Somehow this is an argument FOR the team against 82’s point of us not being a playoff team.

Although, to be fair, they (Rangers) had just swept the Astros...

This is a first place caliber team in what counts as a small, non-coastal market. You don't give up in the middle of a winning season, as you won't get many chances like this. What happens if we give away all our talent now to load up on kids? What then, when the kids get good, you give up on them too? We're winning NOW. How often do you get the chance to take the Doyers and their idiotic unlimited payroll and stick it to them?
I am not sure I believe this team is good enough to beat the Dodgers in a 5 or 7 game series but you make a valid point. If the dbacks fail to make the playoffs then we may regret not maximizing the possibilities.

- This is not a "first-place caliber" team. The MLB season is 162 games, not 60, or 80, or 100... To be a first-place caliber team, we need much better and consistent play from, well, just about everyone. We are in the bottom 3-5 in baseball in just about every key offensive category. Though we do rank at the very top for Strikeouts!
- Our starting pitching has mainly been the Grienke and Corbin show, with Godley doing all he can to give the team a chance to win in most of his starts, and Buchholz doing the same. But the reality is that last season, and again this year, in key matchups (such as last night) Grienke and Corbin seem to find ways to come up short. And do you really see Godley and Buchholz are trustworthy, big game pitchers??
- Our pen has been good enough for most of the season. However, since the All-Star break, the cracks have shown up - which is why the team's midpoint moves were almost exclusively spent on the pen - with the exception of Escobar. And thus far, the moves the team has made have not at all panned out... Our pen actually looks worse than prior to the moves!
We are good enough to contend, but definitely not a First Place team... And had we been sellers, we wouldn't have had "give away all our talent." The 2 that glaringly stand out are Corbin and Pollock, both of whom will be walking into the arms of another team once this season is over. And the Dbacks will get squat, as in NOTHING in return... So we held onto these guys under the premise that it's better to make a post season run this year, while sacrificing the next 3-5 years...when we could've gotten superior young talent had we moved them this year.
