Several points to make:
1) I’ve been a hard core fan since they moved here
2) been a season ticket holder for about 24-25 years
3) nothing will change - as disappointing as it was, it is what it is.
4) if the team wanted a change it, they would have done so already. Many season ticket holders are “scalpers”. I don’t mind a season ticket holder selling their ticket if they can’t go but that’s probably only 5-10% of the resold tickets. There other 90-95% are scalpers/investors making money. These guys will always find a way to skirt around rules anyway so there needs to be still rules.
5) and lastly, win some championships and build a world wide fan base. The Cardinals have been here for 33 years and have what 7-8 playoff years. They were bad for so many years losing a whole generation of kids.

Unfortunately, winning brings a fan base culture. Heck, maybe the scalpers make more money at the end of the day.

In my humble opinion, and like some others have said, it's about the football culture in the Phoenix area.

If the Cardinals can build a winning tradition, then as the years (even decades) go by, the Team will build up the contingent of die-hard fans in Phoenix that won't allow situations like last night to occur.

Chicken and Egg though. less likely to build that consistent culture when your home games are full of away fans.

And if you can't pack your home stadium out when you are 7-0 and playing the 6-1 Packers in prime time when can you?

Blah blah I know they don't owe us anything or any kind of explanation, but it was definitely a factor in a 3 point loss tonight. Crazy thing is, this game might actually cost them a home playoff game. Now I'm not saying we lost solely because of that, but our crowd didn't show up for a primetime game at 7-0 and that doesn't help. Even though the game was constantly close, the crowd was a nonfactor. This could bite us down the line.
A very large portion of season tickets is owned by scalping companies that sell to the highest bidder. This has always been the case yet people still gripe year after year. Bidwill could fix this, easily.

What is the percentage? Where did you find this information? Just asking because I would really like to read about that.

It's been knowledge for a very long time. I don't remember any data. I can say having season tickets for 6 years, it is very obvious as well. Certain seats always have different people.

But there is some data out there's I haven't seen it in years.

You have to hire a bunch of strippers for the halftime show

I mean I think it's literally a decades long process. Teams like the Steelers or the Packers slowly became ingrained in the the cultures of their cities. It certainly didn't happen overnight.

It's the five-year-olds in Phoenix area that make up the next group of people who won't sell their tickets. The ones who will never have "my other favorite team" (I dislike that so much), who will live and die on every play with 2041 Cardinals, because JJ or Kyler or Budda or someone captured their young imagination, and they become forever indoctrinated, forever loyal to this franchise.

But like I mentioned, the franchise bears responsibility for this too. They have to do everything possible to win eight, nine, ten games a year at least. Even if they are playing at a disadvantage because of a lot of rowdy opposing fans get seats at home games. It's difficult, but it can be done.

7-8 Playoff seasons would be a dream! Sadly, it's only 5 playoff seasons... in 33 years. That's why there isn't a rabid fanbase here. especially when we haven't made the playoffs in 5 years, the current longest drought in the league. That should change this year.

Yep the Cardinals have no one to blame but themselves.

When the new stadium opened, I purchased my initial season tickets when it was my turn. Then I got a call from the Cardinals to see if I wanted to buy additional seats. One of their sales points for buying extra seats was that I could always sell my additional seats and most likely make a profit off them. I'm sure a lot of season ticket holders did this.

Then like you said, you also have to factor in the Ticket brokers who bought up large blocks of tickets. You can go online and buy seats all over the stadium from them. They have rows where you can buy 1-10 seats together depending on how many you want.

People can gripe all they want about Cardinals fans selling their tickets but it's just a bunch of hot air. Ticket brokers don't care who sits in their seats as long as the seats get sold.

It's progress. In the 90s, you almost never saw anyone wearing Cards stuff. If you did, people literally laughed at you. In Phoenix. You could barely find anything. But, the stores sure had Cowboys stuff.

It is changing for the better. I do my part by buying season tickets. There is nothing else I can do to improve attendance of Cards fans. It used to be very humiliating at times in SDS. State Farm, no opposing fan base takes over the stadium anymore. That used to happen at SDS. And, in some of the first few seasons in the new stadium.

I just don't see any point in griping about it.

I don't know man.

We had the 2008 Superbowl run. We had 3 very good years under BA. None of them seemed to have changed much. Very few teams have dynasties.

The Bucs have been one of the worse teams in the league. Florida has a high transplant population. I don't see Raymond James with a similar problem.

I understand your reasoning. It just doesn't seem to effect teams in a similar position.

You're right. Mike is part of the problem. He's always been more interested in selling seats than who is in them.

Oh, it isn't any different when the Steelers, Cowboys, Packers, etc play there. Pay attention to the crowd with some of those teams. Like, check the Bills game there on Dec 12. There will be a considerable number of Bills fans.

I know and get all the excuses for other fans at Cardinal games. Still, we all hate it. Quite frankly it is embarrassing and if you don't feel that, you are lying to yourself.

I will say it is fun when we win and you get to see all the disappointment. Paying an arm and a leg to see your team lose is not fun for anybody and it is very satisfying for me and my son to slow-mo the reactions on the TV. Didn't get that chance last night unfortunately.

I feel so bad for the true cardinal fans at a game like that when we lose. Personally, I would NEVER sell tickets to the opposing team fans, sorry. You don't have to believe me, but I would not, it's principles for me. However I get why people do it.

I understand. I have never sold my tickets, ever. There are three games I have ever missed. I gave my tickets to Cards fans.

Sad isn't it? I always thought the new stadium and winning would change this but I have now realized it is part of what Phoenix is and always will be. Generations won't change anything because kids act like their parents. People here care little about anything outside of their backyard pools, let alone truly supporting sports teams.

For people with 50 yard line season tickets, acting like making money off this game is life changing or something is bizarre. Just call it what it is and save the excuses.

I love this team. I do not love this city.
Naw that’s not accurate. Look at how this city used to support the suns before they were sarvered. For a transplant team to win a generation of hearts you have to give them something to love. The cards in their first 20 years in the valley gave us one playoff team. One. They were 104-217. They didn’t win the hearts and souls of the generation being raised in the presence of cardinals football. In 30+ years there’s been 5 seasons where they made the playoffs. It takes work to build a following. Work that the team failed at miserably. Our best stretch is 4 playoff seasons in the last 14 years. Again, tough to capture the hearts of a city.

You can drive from PA to Florida in a day. Driving from AZ to Florida is not really a legitimate option.
For people paying the freight on super bowl tix they’re capable of purchasing a plane ticket. Again, the game could’ve been in SoCal abd the Steelers fans would’ve outnumbered us. You know. I know it. We all know it.

Lemme ask you, do cardinals fans take over anyone else’s stadiums? No. We don’t travel like other teams who have built rabid fanbases.

I'd be interested to know if that's changed now that we have Kyler and Hopkins. No offense to Warner and Fitz, but this team has a lot more excitement to it with Kyler running the show. I'd be willing to bet Kyler jerseys sell a LOT more than Warner jerseys.
In three years if we are perennial playoff team? Likely yes. But on the heels of 5 years of .500 or less play? Not yet.

It's not the football culture in Phoenix. It's the culture in Phoenix. Everything comes a distant second to a Phoenician's backyard swimming pool. People here don't really care about anything here.
Again, not true. See suns pre-Sarver down years.

Uh you’re blaming the history of bad cardinals football on the fans? That’s rich, even by your standards.

Cards at Sun Devil and Cards at State Farm are like two different franchises for most "fans" in this city. Good comparison is the D-backs who were an expansion team and won the World Series. Chase gets overrun by opposing fans all the time. Heck so does the Footprint Center outside of the NBA Playoffs. ASU Football used to draw 76,000. They gutted their stadium and now are lucky to draw 40k. It will never change. Cards could win 4 straight Super Bowls and this would still be a thing.

No you’re wrong. What’s the common theme with all the nonsuns teams? Didn’t give the city enough to fall in love with. The city LOVED the dbacks initially. Then they stopped being relevant. Really quickly. A playoff every 8-10 years isn’t enough to win hearts for a young franchise. I notice you have no response for the suns bc they slaughter your argument.
