Shaq is an all-star, he is putting up better stats than a lot of players....
And he carried the team as Point Center last night after Nash and Amare left the game. And he did it while playing with some bench players.

If he does that four out of each five games during the season (resting on a back-to-back night) and is ready for the playoffs, his age won't be a factor.

And the Suns will be competitive right to the end, which will be a welcome change.

If they take 3 centers he has a chance. If not, he has no chance. You could post his numbers all you want but Yao/AL Jeff have better numbers and are actually eligible to be ranked because they are on pace to play more than 70 games.

Not to mention he is only averaging 20 or more pts against the Bucks, Knicks, Kings, Thunder. Damn those are some monster frontcourts he is tearing up.

And he did it against a team that's won exactly 3 of their 32 games played.

If Nash is out tonight and Shaq plays another good game against the Grizz--a team that's won at least 1/3 of their games--then may he is indeed "in great shape." If they sit Shaq out tonight because it's #2 on a B2B I think I'll throw up.

I don't get all the hate for Shaq. I hated him when he was on a different team, but the amount of hate for Shaq that some Suns fans have is beyond me.
Forget the stats- 17 points on 60% shooting, and 9 rebounds in less than 30 minutes.
His presence has made this team different. Opposing team's big men don't look like all stars every time they play the Suns now. Hell, Shaq actually went head to head with Duncan and held his own just fine.
He plays harder than he's ever played in his career, goes after every rebound and every loose ball, doesn't complain, doesn't demand the ball, only takes 10-11 shots a game, he even changed his form on free throws recently and is shooting almost 60% from the line.
I just don't understand how a Suns fan can hate Shaq so much.

Suns fans dont hate Shaq. Suns fans hate Amare even though he is the better and much younger player.

Opposing team's big men dont look like all-stars anymore but opposing guards do now that they can run the pick and roll against two of the worst pick and roll defenders in the NBA. He does demand the ball, he doesnt go for a loose ball unless it can be in the highlights. Shaq is overrated by 75% of this board. All facts

i don't either. I think it's mostly from the people who are still dealing with their hangover from getting so drunk on the SSOL.

How Bizarre! Was surfing around today and came across this. Some comments that make points of both sides of the discussion. Go figure....

A lot's happened since they played their last game together, way back on June 15, 2004. Since that Finals loss to the Pistons when they were Lakers teammates, Shaquille O'Neal has played for two other teams, winning a ring with Miami in 2006. Kobe Bryant demanded a trade but ultimately stayed in L.A., and won the MVP last season.

On February 15 in Phoenix, O'Neal and Bryant's 56-month long stretch as ex-teammates could come to an end at the NBA's 58th All-Star Game.

Bryant is a lock for his 11th All-Star Game selection. He leads all Western Conference players with 1,280,912 votes through the second balloting. O'Neal won't be selected through fan voting -- Yao Ming has more than double the Diesel's 546,583 votes -- but there is a strong case for him deserving a spot as a reserve.

O'Neal is averaging 17.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. His 59.1 field-goal percentage ranks second in the league. His main competitors for the position are Andris Biedrins of the Warriors, Al Jefferson of the Timberwolves and Marcus Camby of the Clippers, but all of those players play for sub-.500 teams. Shaq's Suns would be the No. 5 seed in the West if the playoffs started today.

The fact that the game is in Phoenix also should help O'Neal, as the host city almost always ends up with a player on the roster. Amar'e Stoudemire is the only other Suns player in contention. He was behind only San Antonio's Tim Duncan for Western Conference forwards in the second returns, holding a slim lead over Denver's Carmelo Anthony for the starting nod.

The exhibition might not be the last time Bryant and O'Neal play together, either. Shaq told the Sacramento Bee in November that he would be open to a return to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent in 2010.

And that player will be Amare. Amare will probably make it. So if Shaq makes it, it will be because he deserves it.

Could you imagine cobbler and BIM sitting together at a Lakers game circa 03-04??

No one would've cheered.

:notworthy

I cheered very loudly for our team. Always do. That I do not like a player has nothing to do with my being a fan of the team. If that was the case none of you would have cheered for the Suns ever with all the basing I have read in these threads about your coaches and players. I suppose with all the ill will I read here about Amare, if the Suns go on and win it this year you wont be cheering? Ridiculous comments!

I can guarantee you that if the Suns win it this year I will not be cheering. At all.

Gnashing of teeth, maybe.

The joke is that you don't like Shaq and BIM hates Kobe. Together, you two would spend more time complaining to each other about these two players than cheering. I thought it funny.

Big difference. When we make criticisms of our own team its not because we are simply bashing. There are alot of people who make comments out of pure passion for this team and wanting to see them improve. Sure we have our share of koolaid drinkers but in general I think we have level headed fans who want to see this team improve and know that this team is not above criticism.

You Laker fans cannot make the same claim when making comments about the team. Hence some of your ridiculous comments disguised at "neutrality". Your hate for certain players or lack of investment in the Suns as your favorite team sometimes overrides any sense of logic. The Suns fan's criticisms of our own team doesn't come from such a misguided point of view (Laker fanboysim).

Although I admit some Lakers fans are not as bad as others on this baord (cough Mavs fans..cough cough Spurs fans)...you who you are.....I just threw up a little in my mouth. :D

Again, I fail to see your point on the difference. My comments were in a direct reply to the post that implied I wasn't cheering for my Lakers when we won our titles because I do not like Shaq. I was cheering. Just as you would your team even though you dont like certain players on it. The comment about not cheering cause you all bash Amare was sarcasm.

In other words... I didn't like Shaq then... I don't like him now. It has nothing to do with neautrality or fanboyism. It has nothing to do with which team he plays for. I simply think he's a jerk.
