Shaq is 35 years old and weighs 500 pounds and can't even survive the Heat system. But anything to get rid of Banks right?

There's a thread about this in the trade forum already, and thankfully everyone realizes it would be horrible.

But hey, why don't the Suns bring in Manut Bol or George Mikan since they need front up help?

Like I said before, I'd trade Marion, Banks for Shaq and Wright and the right to swap picks.

We would immediately be a very good defensive team with Shaq in the middle and Amare at the 4.

Of course we wouldnt "run" anymore at least not with Shaq but I can live with that. Shaq would help us more in the playoffs than Marion, imo. Even an old Shaq is still a force and forces the other team to plan around him.

Anyone who can't even tell the difference between 'dominate' and 'dominant' is not worthy of serious conjecture.

Shaq Out, Marion In?: Despite Pat Riley telling media that Shaq is not going to be traded, more than a few league sources say there have been real talks about Shaq heading to Phoenix in a Shawn Marion – Boris Diaw deal. Suns sources downplay Shaq coming in, but continue to say they hear the Suns are indeed looking. Why would Phoenix take such a risk? Despite Shaq's declining career, he is still a dominate force down low and if healthy he could be the difference for Phoenix in the playoffs as teams would have to choose who to double-team – Shaq or Amare. The Suns according to sources close to the team are growing tired of Shawn Marion, and if Miami will take Diaw's contract it seems there is some validity to the idea the Suns would sniff at Shaq. Seems like an odd pairing as Shaq surely would struggle with the Suns tempo – unless the Suns have decided that slowing things down might be the key to a title.

^ That has always been one of my major peeves around most of the NBA boards. "He is a 'dominate' player...", etc., et al.

I hope to all things holy it happens. Then, and only then, will Suns fans understand why the Lakers didnt resign him, a move that the majority of you criticized at the time.

.............

That's how I'm feeling about this potential trade. I really want them to win a ring and I just don't don't think the current roster is going to be able to do it.

hill-marion-Amare or diaw-marion-Amare

That frontline is just asking to get abused for 20 Orebounds a game.

Replace that with Hill-Amare-Shaq and we improve dramatically, on defense.

Shaq has never played with an elite PG like Nash, doesn't it make you wonder about how that would work out?

Yeah he's fat and slow but the team can always pull it back out and wait for him to come down the court if there isn't an opening on the fast break.

......... just a make a move Kerr, any

Very interesting idea. I doubt it would pay off this season with the shape Shaq is in right now, but assuming he's right next season it may be worth pursuing. It would give the Suns a clear window to win a title, as Shaq's and Nash's contract are up at the same time.

Both of these deals work under the CBA:
Shaq for Marion + Banks
Shaq + Haslem + Wright for Marion + Diaw + Banks

I prefer the first - Diaw is a better player, or at least *can* be a better player than Haslem. Either way, in my mind the Heat would have to take Banks in exchange for Shaq's enormous contract and girth.

The first deal would leave us with:

Nash/Strawberry
Bell/Barbosa
Hill/Tucker/Piatkowski
Stoudemire/Diaw
O'Neal/Skinner/Marks

That is a sick starting 5 assuming health. And all five would be playing at their (gasp) natural positions. :)

Shaq would have to promise to bring us a ring like he did when he went to Miami.

this is wrong. potential means nothing when you're going on year two of not seeing production. i'd do haslem straight up for diaw in a heartbeat, problem is, miami wouldn't even consider it imo.

Shaq for Marion/Banks

Heat in serious talks to trade Shaq

BY BARRY JACKSON

The Heat has told center Shaquille O'Neal's representation that it is talking about trading him and he should be prepared for the possibility of a deal, according to two officials close to the situation. Phoenix has discussed sending forward Shawn Marion and point guard Marcus Banks to the Heat in return for O'Neal.

Asked for confirmation, one of O'Neal's representatives said O'Neal has been made aware that discussions with Phoenix are serious and ongoing, but that a deal was not definite.

Dallas also has been mentioned as a potential destination, though the Heat had not immediately informed O'Neal of that possibility.

O'Neal, 35, was shocked by the turn of events, an associate said. O'Neal helped lead the Heat to the 2005-06 championship, but Miami has struggled since, losing in the first round of the playoffs last season and opening this season with a league-worst 9-37 record.

After this season, Marion can opt out of the last year of his contract worth $17.1 million. If Marion opts out, trading O'Neal would give the Heat substantial salary cap space this offseason, when potential free agents include Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Antawn Jamison, Ron Artest and Corey Maggette.

Marion, 29, is a four-time All-Star and considered one of the NBA's most athletic small forwards. Marion, 6-7, is averaging 15.8 points and 9.9 rebounds.

Banks, 26, is averaging 5.2 points and 1.0 assists. After this season, he has three years left on his contract worth a total of $13.4 million.

O'Neal, who has been out with a hip injury, has two years left on his contract after this season. He will be paid $20 million each of the next two seasons.

On Tuesday, coach Pat Riley said O'Neal was scheduled to have a magnetic resonance imaging exam on his ailing left hip, which has kept him out the past six games.

''We just want to back it up and see, after two weeks, what it shows,'' Riley said.

Riley gave no indication as to when O'Neal would return to the lineup. Riley said O'Neal must strengthen his legs before returning to action, and that the center will be one of six players to miss Wednesday's game at Detroit.

Heat officials were on their way to Detroit and could not be reached for comment.

Put me in the do not want this deal done column. I do want the Suns to make a move. My choice would be to move Marion. However, this is not the right move.

$20,000,000, $20,000,000 for the next two seasons after this.

This could explain Riley speaking out and saying Shaq is not declining in skill. Rather it's injuries that are hampering him and he'll resume to his dominate self soon.

I just do not get this deal at all. I understand we need rebounding and defense, but I just can't see Shaq getting up and down the court with us. That was the main reason I always thought we could have won the title a couple years back had we played the Heat. There was no way that Shaq could have stayed on the court with us.

i might be off my rocker, but why the hell not?!?

marion disappears in the playoffs.

marion may have opted out leaving us nothing.

marion's and banks' deals continue to have us cap-strapped.

nash and shaq come off the books at the same opening up a lot of dough for a potential FA.

shaq may benefit from the healing powers of our magic training staff (see mcdyess and hill).

shaq means no more guarding centers for amare. who cares if shaq gets in foul trouble?

less small ball!

barkley part deux?

more fun quotes? (i'm reaching here people)

i think i've just lost my mind. i don't think the suns can win it "as is" so maybe i'm in the mode of "just shake the damn thing up and let's see what spills out."
