There aren't many "top guys" that fit what we need.

Trey Smith is a good player, but he's always played RG and I'd rather have Hernandez at $8m per year than Smith at $18m per year.

The best FA Edge is Khalil Mack. Josh Sweat is a below average Edge #1 and I'm really not interested at the money I expect him to get. I don't think he's as good as guys like Greenard in last years class and I'm super wary of guys that average about 8 sacks a year that play on elite D lines.

There are some good CB's, but we are fully stocked at CB.

There's a whole bunch of around 30 year old WR's that I'm not sure add a great deal.

If people are expecting some huge names I don't think they exist.

The guys I like for talent/value are,

Malcolm Koonce
Haasan Reddick (at the right money on an upside gamble)
Dre Greenlaw
Devin Bush
Ernest Jones
Will Fries (although I think Fries gets paid $15m+)
Hollywood Brown (If he will come back for sub $10m)
Darius Slayton (I like the idea of Slayton as an outside deep threat with Mike in the slot)
Dayo Odeyingbo
Chase Young
Azeez Ojulari
Calais Campbell (Dude still a beast, nice story)
Patrick Mekari
Patrick Jones
Sebastian Joseph-Day

This is the kind of pond I think the Cards will be fishing in and I think there's maybe 3 that get more than $10m per. Not sure how many people here would consider these big fish.

If I was to nominate a luxury pick it would be Chris Godwin.
I don't think there will be "value" on this list. Good names, but more money will mean a lot of these guys won't be taking discounts.

The more I watch this edge class the more I think we don't take Edge in round 1. The difference between guys slated to go mid round one and those at the back end of round 2 is minimal.

Jared Ivey is another. 6'6" and 283lb he moves like a much smaller guy. I like his more than Darius Robinson last year, he's more agile and has more tools. Really smart player when you watch him.

Right now I would take one of the D linemen or trade back and grab an Edge unless Marshall falls to us

No. Not frugal. There just aren't any big name guys that are worth $25m a year so you're not going to get any splash moves. There are plenty of good players worth $8-15m though that can improve the team.
So how do you reconcile your guarantees last offseason when Monti was undeniably frugal to saying there's no one worth spending much on this offseason? A couple of low-cost FA deals ain't going to cut it. Were you wrong last offseason or this offseason?

By the by, the only reason I'm holding your feet to the fire on this is because you absolutely scoffed at people last offseason with smug assurance that we'd have a big FA this year, that we would HAVE to have a big FA period. Now you're changing your tune. So, dish.

We will spend big in FA this year, there's just jot going to be a big name because there are no big names. This should be clear by the fact the most talked about names here are Milton freaking Williams and Josh Sweat.

if monti wants to get better this year (and be here next year) he needs to act now - he hitched his wagon to kyler - wether he believes in kyler or not is moot - kyler is his window - monti's not getting a contract extension if he starts out with 4 losing seasons

i say 4 losing seasons because if he does move on from kyler murray - we likely won't have an upgrade right away - meaning it could get worse - for all we know we could be tanking again in a couple years

move up in the draft - spend big in free agency - make trades if all that doesn't cut it - acquire all the big talent you can while you can and PRAY kyler murray finally figures it all out

Okay, thanks for the clarity. So you're looking for a high volume of moderately priced FAs from Monti. Cool.

Until Joey boss gets cut that's about all there is out there. Not a big Johnson in sight.

But honestly, after some thought, I wouldn't mind signing Bosa for 2 years...we can at least be certain he would help us stay over the niner hump...competing against his little brother has to bring out his best...and maybe he can pass on some vet wisdom to our young guys

I'm not against Bosa, I said as much yesterday, we need some vet experience at Edge. But on thinking about it I'd rather sign Khalil Mack.

Joey Bosa has always been massively overrated IMO. He's only played 3 full seasons in 9 and even then peaked at a respectable but underwhelming 12.5 sacks. Massively overpaid in his career. Somehow made the pro bowl last year on 5 sacks, which tells you all you need to know about the pro bowl.

i was on khalil when everyone was still on sweat - but since then ive read khalil wants to go to a contender because he's only been in 5 playoff games and lost them all - so i don't think he's coming to arizona
