Seriously, who was a better player that 'never got the career they deserved'?

Grant Hill, Bill Walton, maybe Brad Daugherty. Hardaway made it to the Finals and earned over $100 million. He didn't do too badly for himself.

Great Post. Grant Hill will always be that guy that was so close, but his body fell apart. I loved his game.

Bill was able to cash in an NBA championship with the Blazers before things went completely south. He was also able to contribute off the bench for the Celtics championship in '86. I really believe (when watching tape), BW could have been the post low post player in NBA history, had his ankles supported his weight.

Another would be Arvydas Sabonis... never saw him in his prime, but others (BW mainly) believes he was 'ubber' talented.

Definitely made me cringe, but not the worst I've seen. Hope he'll be ok.

This is the worst I've seen..

I remember watching Johnny Nash (ASU) back in the 70's. He went up for a layup and came down and snapped his leg midway between the ankle and knee. As he rolled over on his back, his leg pointed toward the rafters. But his lower leg, from mid-calf down, flopped like a fish at a 90 degree angle from the rest of his leg.

I about puked when I saw it.

Any other old timers here who remember that?

Nastiest thing I've seen is Tony Saunders, pitcher for the Devil Rays, who broke his humerus bone in his arm simply by throwing a pitch in a regular-season game.

You can't make it out very well in the video (Quicktime, BTW), but I saw it up close on Outside the Lines - just about made me puke.

I like the drawing, it would be even more funny if you had an invisible Randy Livingston rolling around under him.

MSG.com's Anthony Fucilli has learned that Knicks shooting guard Jamal Crawford will miss the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in his right ankle. The two-guard has been playing with the injury and will need surgery.

Livingston out for season with major knee injury td.yspwidearticlebody { font-size: 13.5px; }By BETH HARRIS, AP Sports Writer
February 27, 2007

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Clippers point guard Shaun Livingston will be out 8-to-12 months after tearing three of the four ligaments in his left knee while driving to the basket against Charlotte.
"It's probably the most serious injury you can have to the knee," Clippers physician Dr. Tony Daly said Tuesday. "He might miss all of next year."
Livingston had an MRI exam Tuesday which revealed tears in the anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and lateral meniscus.
He also dislocated his patella, besides the previously diagnosed dislocation of his tibia-femoral. As a rookie in 2004, he dislocated his right knee.
Livingston was driving to the basket on a fast break Monday night, went up for a layup, and his left knee contorted as he collapsed in pain. A team doctor had to pop his knee back into place to alleviate the pain.
"He came down on the leg without any contact with anybody. It's a freak accident, that's for sure," said Daly, who has rarely seen anything similar in 24 years of practice.
He said the injury is more commonly associated with contact sports such as football and rugby.
Daly will solicit various medical opinions over the next two weeks, after which Livingston will have arthroscopic surgery, the doctor said. It wasn't yet decided if all three ligaments would be repaired at once.
Daly said Livingston did not tear an artery or damage any of the nerves in his knee, which can be serious complications.
"If everything goes well, he could be back playing as soon as eight months," Daly said. "My nature is to be conservative. I've seen people who've had this done by other people and it hasn't worked out."
Livingston, a three-year veteran who was drafted by the Clippers out of high school, has been hampered by injuries and has yet to play a full season in the NBA. He sat out two games in January with a sprained right ankle. He missed 39 games during his rookie season because of a dislocated right knee, and another 12 that season because of torn cartilage in his right shoulder. Last season he sat out the first 21 games with a stress reaction in his lower back. Livingston, who has been sharing point guard duties with Sam Cassell, was averaging 9.5 points and 5.2 assists.

An latimes.com article says it could be up to 1 year before Livingston begins any basketball related activity.

MCL, ACL, PCL, and dislocated patella. Gotta feel for that guy. Especially when it appeared as if he was starting to achieve some of the success expected of him.

Luckily medicine has made humongous strides and the possibilty remains that he can play again.

*Is the severity of the injury the equivalent to having his leg internally severed?*

Its a Googs type of injury that you have to believe is career threatening. The thing he has going for him is that he is young.

I feel bad for the kid, but I guess at least he can be thankful that he got drafted early. He would have been a junior in college this year and if this happened in college, he would probably never make the league. He'll also receive better medical care.

I feel awful for the guy. I really hope he can play again, but it doesnt look to promising at the moment.

In terms of basketball injury, that is the worst one ive seen to date.

Oh my, that is bad.

very bad. Usually I get queezy when I watch those bad injuries. Live, it isn't a big deal, but watchng videos is something else.

For some reason, not so much queeziness. (I like that word, queeziness)

Between Shaun and Randy a case can be made that being a tall PG named Livingston is bad for your knees.

That's a horrific injury, I was still getting over Brian Butch's dislocated/fractured elbow last week for Wisconsin, this one is MUCH worse.

"grant hill, bill walton..."

Right, grant hill. Completely forgot about him though i don't remember him doing much in the finals at all. But yeah, arguably as good an upside that was never fulfilled

Heh, the way Shaun Livingstone looks in the photo is sort of similar to that poster shot of Jordan with the moon in the back ground. Only Shaun's not flying.
