If true, there's a stench of slime about the way the Mannings, the teams, the league and the media have handled this.

Frankly, they've wasted my time, and I've lost all respect for the carnival they call Pro Football.

Reason - we were led to believe there would be a fair, level transparent process. Instead we had heavy hitters & their posses jetting in and out of Durham under cover of darkness, secret workouts and last-minute suitors jumping into the pile. If that's the way the game's to be played, let the fans know so we don't have to waste time & energy on a fool's errand.

noone promiced anything to you and you believed the media even tho it was obvious they knew nothing. You should have realized this was a dumb idea after the front runner was miami for weeks and they barely even got looked at.

A fair, level, transparent process? Who said that? Who said anything about it that had any real knowledge of anything? If you wasted your time its YOUR fault, noone else. Nobody owes you anything.
I agree. and I can't be mad if were a cards fan. If anything I would be happy that the cardinals brass tried to go after peyton. this is just the way it goes sometimes. in the end things will work out for the cardinals. peyton is still great IMO and I would want him over 99% of the QBs out there. but his best days are likely behind him and someone is going to over pay for him due to the fact that the clock is running out on him.

If this is true....Peyton has or will lose alot of respect from some teams and players. I mean be honest. I look at this way...And I don't care how it sounds, I hope we blitz him on every down including 3rd and inches if he goes to the 49ers!! In fact...I say we trade draft choices for Greg Williams!! I say lay a bounty on his ass so high that Betty White will try out for us as a defensive end!

This actually can be a silver lining..If he gets hurt. The 49ers will be stuck no one.

Now thinking about this...this makes no sense based on Eli...Why goto the 1 team that basically guarantees Eli no SHot at the Super Bpwl..I mean no way GIants beat 49ers with Peyton.

I hope he has a Steve Young 49er/Card game.

Why can't people grasp the concept that its not personal its just business?

Does anybody believe that Tom Condon would throw one of his clients under the bus in favour of the other?

Don't know his thinking, but suspect a bit of orchestration on his part.

Creates a bidding war between Tenn and Denver for PM and forces SF hand on Smith.

I agree...and my favorite teams in dallas have had plenty of those that I wish they never did....

I remember one though with the rangers where I was pissed that they didn't get barry zito and the giants outbid them. I vowed not to go to another rangers game every again lol because I thought they had no intention of ever signing a true quality pitcher. but that was the stupid fan in me. looking back they made the right move not to overpay for the older zito.

Don't ever let any of the internet yahoo experts lead you to believe that they know more about the sports business than the people that own and run them. Most of the experts on here can't balance their own checkbooks much less manage a sports team

Also don't forget that most people paid to be experts in anything, are anything but experts.

I could list just about any high paying position in this country (or world) that is supposed to denote being an expert, and the people are as clueless as Forrest Gump.

In other words, there really are few experts. Being paid or having a job doesn't mean you are one. It just means if someone figures it out, you're out of a job...or promoted.

From my experience, most experts are rookies in all that really matters.

While this does nothing to raise up the 'internet yahoos', it surely should lower the 'experts'. In other words, the difference between experts and yahoos seems to be a degree or a job title. Neither of which prove you are an expert, just you regurgitated sophistry and/or talked your way into a job.

Many of the poorest and dumbest decisions that are made, are wrongly made by 'experts'. Real asinine things that anyone with a half a brain would know not to do, the 'experts' do because they are clueless. Our schools/colleges teach clueless, our corporations teach/reward clueless, and what do you know there are a lot of clueless people running around saying they are experts.

If someone is an 'expert', watch them like a hawk. Usually they were anointed to be one wrongly, and stopped bettering their craft.

Why cant people grasp that to the owners and players its business, but to many fans it is personal. No one on the "team" side wants to win or cares about a team like diehard fans do, regardless of what they want you to think. For many its hard not to take it personal when you have a deep emotional connection to something.

Guess what? Without fans buying the tickets, sponsors' products and merch, there ain't no business.

As a fan, I feel played (because I thought the process was set up to be structured, transparent and fair).

Well it wasn't, and as a fan the one thing I promise is to try like the blazes never to be emotionally sucked in by free agency hype ever again. And I'm pretty sure that watching the "business" of pro football will never quite be the same for me again - always there will be a a bit of cynicism lurking in the background.

it's all bs. business is personal...we are all people(not robots) that conduct business. having said that for the best businessmen they have to have the ability to remove their emotions when necessary to see the big picture. that's what seperates a good businessman from a bad one. fans are just fans, we don't have to worry about the business side.

then for the players. for peyton this is a business and a personal decision. if you were being recruited by multiple agencies or oranizations wouldn't you look at all options and consider what is best for you in all aspects? Wouldn't you spin things in your favor to negotiate the best deal? that's what I would be doing.... his value is just going up the longer this drags out....and there is a greater chance more teams could jump in.

LOL... what in the world ever gave you this indication? it's manning's life/personal business. Was he supposed to tell everyone in the world his every move? sorry, but expecting ANY kind of negotiating to be a "structure, transparent and fair" process is incredibly pollyan-ish.

Well, I'm a fan of the Cardinals too and have been since 73 or 74 but I don't take it personally. Its ENTERTAINMENT to me and its fun watching the games and trying to guess what they will do in the offseason. But, saying that, I'm mature enough to see it for what it is.

Theres the key, "YOU THOUGHT" . Again, the athlete is going to go where HE wants to go not where the fans want him to go. Its his profession, his job, how he makes a living and I don't blame him one bit.
