The problem is we've never seen Big play left tackle in the NFL. Until he gets the opertunity to play there we can't really judge him on how he will preform there. Green likes to give guys chances to shine. That might be what he is doing with Big here.Russ Smith said:I did a lousy job of making my point though.
What concerns me is if Green thinks Big is a LT and the best option, then why not come out and say Big is my LT this year? Let Big spend the time between now and game 1 preparing to play LT. Tell Shelton if you want to start, you have to win another position.
By saying LT "for now" he's saying that 3 months from now Shelton is back in shape and a better LT than Big, I'm going to swap them. That may make sense in the vein of put your best players on the field, but in the interim you've spent 3 months with Big practicing at LT instead of LG. If you want Big to be a dominant LG, let him practice there.
IF he said Big is my LT, I'd be ok with it, note I haven't complained once about moving him to LG I was fine with it because he made a decision. This one seems designed just to motivate a guy who frankly I'm not convinced had a motivational problem. LJ has missed 3 games in the last 4 years and has played hurt consistently during that time. He's not a Pro Bowler but he's a solid player, I'm not sure he needs this as motivation he's NOT one of the guys I worry about.
And as I've said for years, I don't believe Big can be an elite LT, never have believed it, I believe he can be a dominant guard or an elite RT, but not a LT. That's why I said we would be better off moving down and taking Hutchinson than taking him that high, and Hutchinson has been a better player so far even though he's purely a guard.
I think LT played Linebacker!HeavyB3 said:I have a question. Can LT play right tackle? Would Clement be a better Guard? I mean.. What if they moved Clement to left guard and LT to Right Tackle? I think that would solidify our line assuming they could both play those positions.
Edit....
Oh and maybe someone should make Vikesfan a "DG knows what he's doing" smily.

At least I don't use a quote about SOCCER on a football board.Tangodnzr said:Why do you even bother to post crap like this? Why is it so difficult for you to comprehend that just about everyone is now tuning you out due to the incessant and uneccesary repeticiousness of your posts.
I think we all know that "DG knows what he's doing"....after all, you pollute almost every single thread with the same ol', same o', same ol', same ol'.......lines with your reminders of it.
Not everyone here is totally brain dead. Some of us can think for ourselves. And your constant machine-gun repetitions of points you have already made a zillion times accomplishes little but make your posts strident and not worth reading.
(BTW...thank you Nidan for helping me improve my vocabulary. As it was you who first once used the adjective (strident) in regard to one of my posts.![]()

I'm not to concerned with messing up the chemistry on the O-Line. It's not like they've lived up to expectations in the past. Why not try something different?
With that said there's probably only one person who knows what Green's real intensions are that person is vikingsfan... oops I meant Green.

Yes playing LT and RT is very similar. At RT you face pass rushers who are usually not as good as you face at LT (with some exceptions like Strahan). You have to be able to run block and I have been told by fans here he can runblock. So yeah LJ can switch the RT. As for Clement. I assume he could move to G since G is a little easier to play then T you can get help on pass rushing. I don't know about his mobility or strength but if he can play RT in the NFL he can probably play G in the NFL. I assume he can runblock well enough, if not he can always work on getting stronger and/or more mobile.HeavyB3 said:Anyone want to humor me and answer this question? Anyone?
Tangodnzr said:Actually it might be best if Clement were moved to Left Guard, beside Big at LT. Move Kendall to RT and Shelton to RG. Wells could start the year at C but then replace him with one of the rookies after the 7th game. At that point you could then shift Wells to LT, move Big to LG, Clement to RG and Shelton to RT.
That way, all the O-linemen are well versed at all positions should an injury occur, plus everyone would be playing in positions new to them and the useless prior years they spent with this pathetic organization could be isolated, dismissed, and negated so that the sins of the past would no longer haunt the future develpment of the team.![]()
