Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers are back as the defending World Series champions.

Ohtani has proven throughout his MLB career that he can serve as a dual-threat player who can be a dominant force on offense while also delivering from the mound.

Ohtani was named the National League's Most Valuable Player as a designated hitter in his first season with the Dodgers. He had a .310 batting average with 197 hits, 54 home runs, 130 RBIs and 134 runs scored in 159 games played. He also won his third Sliver Slugger award.

On the mound, Ohtani was limited to just playing offense while he was recovering from elbow surgery in 2024.

When will Shohei Ohtani pitch for the Dodgers?

Ohtani is expected to throw a bullpen session this Saturday, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Ohtani has not pitched in a regular season game since Aug. 23, 2023. He has not thrown off a mound since Feb. 25.

“Once he gets to the 'pen on Saturday, I think we will have a better idea of what a plan looks like,” Roberts told reporters on Monday. “... Making sure we are as cautious and careful as possible.”

A timetable for Ohtani's competitive return to the mound has not been announced.
