Should the Cards wear throwbacks?

Would you like to see the Cardinals wear throwback uniforms?

Lets get some winning built into the new uniforms before we subject ourselves to adorning the suckiness again.
Not as eloquently as I would phrase it but exactly how I feel. Let's make our history.

That's what I'm talkin' about! (Reference post #6 this thread.)

I think I will buy that book - When Football was Football. There is a preview of it on Amazon; looks pretty interesting! Check it.

I would like to see the Cards make a really vicious alternate. I say go black on black with black helmets and red lettering and trim. It would be sooooo damn mean.

Although I really did like the basic double-stripe pants the Cards were wearing just prior to the new uniforms, I think they should go with the Hart era. THAT is the tradition I think we should be harkening back to.

Also, this was a great uniform that used black sparingly. It made the black in the logo pop. I have tried to support the new uni's and think they are fine, but I would be really excited to see them go back in this direction.

I like the old uni's from the Centers era in our last year as the Phoenix Cardinals.

They had a patch on each shoulder of the cardinal logo that was later replaced by an Arizona Flag. Those have always been my favorite.

Actually, that era's uniforms had both the Cardinal logo, and the flag patch. Along with the sleeve stripes. Only on the White jerseys though.

I love those Chicago Cardinals throwbacks from the NFL 75th anniv year. I like the all white ones better but the reds were cool too though. They had small numbers that were off to the side on the front and stripes on the sleeves and socks. I've never ever seen them anywhere since.

I'd be happy if they went to the previous red jerseys too.

Those are sweet!! I'm digging that.

I say wear the St. Louis era uniforms when we go to St. Louis to play the Rams.

I like this idea!

It seems that teams would normally wear throwbacks at home, but in this case it would be the old uniforms at the old home; yeah, I know the Cards played at Busch, but you get the idea...

While I don't hate the Cards current uni's/logo they do look a bit Arena footballish to me. My personal all time favorites were the last ones they wore, especially the white ones w/ the Arizona flag.

I agree about wearing Tillman era throwbacks sometime for a game honoring him, though it probably would've been better to do the day he was inducted into the ring of honor. Or did they were throwbacks that day? I dont recall.

I think we should just scrap the Cardinals history and start with a clean slate this year.

That's a NO from me.

I am generally in favor of sports franchises leaving behind their nickname, colors, and history/records when they move to a different city, like the Browns did. However, it's 20 years too late to do that now.

I wonder what we would have been called?

I know that back in the '70s, the group that included Bart Starr that tried to bring an expansion team to the Phoenix metro area wanted to name the team the "Phoenix Firebirds".

"Firebirds" would have worked for me; it would have kept the bird-motif in place, and could have kept Cardinal Red as the primary color.

Not only would it be problematic for the team to switch now, it would be really expensive. Not to mention having to replace all of the permanent seats in UOP Stadium that all have the new logo on the backs of them.

It's better that they leave it alone (!).

Wow, two things I did not expect:

1) As discussion of changing the name/colors again.

2)

It's an outstanding book if you're a Cardinals fan thanks to the extremely complete accounting of early game results, but be aware that some of the text can get a bit dry as a result of the style of writing 100 years ago (quite the number of quotes from old newspapers).

It's amazing to consider just how very successful the team was early on as opposed to the reputation they acquired thanks to their later years.
