All basketball related matters? How much more vague could that be? Its a basketball team. 100% of everything is "basketball related matters". The half time show at games is a basketball related matter.

Did you read the "including" part?

The suns are paying him to help the rest of the league.
If he managed an NFL team he'd be Rod Graves
Ryan has no ability to see talent
Team has NOT won under his tenure
He's given away an all star player in Thomas for peanuts
He gave away PG to Miami
He lost the draft pick
He payed a average player super money

Anyone still on his side is either dumb or dumber

You can follow him to the bottom of the ocean....that's where he's comfortable.

It's an honor to be dumb in your opinion. I don't agree with everything that McD has done by any means but we are in a much better position now than when he took over - and at the time the situation looked truly hopeless. To tell the truth, I don't feel much worse about his biggest blunder - acquiring and paying Knight than I would about having Goran at double the price - unmoveable and too old for out timeline. No one foresaw Isaiah Thomas becoming an AS except for perhaps, Danny Ainge. If you did, you kept it quiet. And he will probably have to be moved for his team to progress - weird for an all star player, no?
My biggest complaint about McD is his choice of coaches - I confess I was tickled over Hornacek at first. Until I saw the offense he trotted out on the floor - I was dumbfounded at that. Watson seemed like a poor choice at the time and has solidified me in that opinion since. I imagine McD was working under fiscal constraints, though, I have no knowledge of that - just going on Sarvers reputation.

Sarver's reputation? Are we seriously back to the "cheap" empty argument again??

Once again I can't find video or audio of today's press conference. I couldn't find video of the draft pick intro either. Who the heck is in charge of media at Suns.com? You just had a significant presser with the major leadership of the team and I can't get anything but small clips. Get it together!

I'm convinced we could sign Lebron James and the Suns wouldn't post the video from the press conference.

I gave up on my getting Suns information from that source a long time ago.

Here are some links that might help.

There are a lot of details you leave out or do not know about. Perhaps a lot of reading is in order.

The Suns trading the Lakers pick for Knight was McDonough's primary mistake given the circumstances.

He's ran the team for how many years?
Name one they've been even remotely competitive?
Yea...the answer is NONE
When you take over a team you can have 2 years to move things around, but when in all his time the team has been arraigned and rearranged and they suck....yea that's the GM...
O yea how many coaches has HE fired now?
Can't get the players
Can't get the coach
Fails at talent evaluation
Team loses EVERY year...last place bad
Yea keep him...shoot give him a new contract.
...thought there'd be some people in here that would see that.
Shoot even the diamondbacks figured things out.
Sad thing is that nice stadium...tax payer money... they have is getting older and older and many people will never go see it before it's out of date.
You couldn't give suns tickets away and fill the stadium up.

"Three-time NBA champion James Jones," give me a break. He played, what, 100 total minutes in his three "victorious" Finals appearances?

I think the rest of the NBA is paying him to make the suns suck
Mission accomplished

You couldn't be more wrong. Sure, a few of his moves haven't worked out, but he has generally done well.

1. Getting Bledsoe for marginal players.
2. Booker.
3. TJ Warren
4. Getting Bender AND Chriss and giving up very little to get Chriss.
5. Tyler Ulis
6. Josh Jackson
7. Finally initiating a rebuild that fans had been calling for. Every GM before him foolishly believed they could rebuild without the draft.

So? You have been complaining a lot lately, Eric. How does this hiring hurt the Suns at all?

Calling it a "significant announcement" hurts the front office's credibility. It would also be fine if McDonough decided to take everyone out to Olive Garden for lunch, but that wouldn't be a "significant announcement" either.

I think the McD extension was a big part of this announcement, and I'd tend to agree that's "significant."

Credibility with whom? For all intents and purposes, the James Jones hiring is earning widespread praise from basketball people. Are you going to stop watching/paying attention to the Suns because of the semantics they used to announce the extension and the hiring of the VP of Basketball Operations?

Why were they doing it on purpose? Maybe because they knew trying would be futile as we have a horrible team?

Your argument is like one of these 400 pound militant anti-man women "choosing" to be single rather than the reality that she couldnt get a date if she tried.

yeah, the Suns "choose" to be bad. If we started trying, we'd be there in game 7 vs the Cavs.

brilliant
Good lord reading you on this and the cards board makes me think you've got a sad sad life to always be so nasty. Or you're 13. Toss up.

Huh? Do you actually think there are other teams out there going, "Oh crap, we wanted James Jones!"

I'll think less of them, sure. Either they're ignorant enough about what they're doing that they actually believe hiring James Jones is "significant," or they're putting mindless spin on something in a lame attempt to attract attention. Either way, it's bush-league.

You are better than that comment Eric. Every team has role players and they are champions just like the starters. James Jones has been an excellent role player his whole career. For someone to knock that is pretty low.

Are you even saying this? Are you drunk or something? The McD extension is a significant announcement. Hiring Jones is a thing too. Good grief.

I don't see why extending McD is viewed as a bad thing or insignificant. I think a number of people here were somewhat concerned with him set to expire after this season that Sarver would hire someone to come in here and undo the young core that McD has built. Sarver's comments during the presser were the best part, IMO, he showed real humility and that he's learned from past mistakes. I know he's said that before but he hasn't done anything since the last time he's made a public apology of sorts to show he didn't mean it then and this shows he's sticking with what he's learned and that is that patience is important when building a competitive NBA team.

That is not the same thing and you know it.

What exactly are your priorities? This attitude makes no sense.

I've read nothing but positive comments about the suns hiring James jones from people a lot more connected to league than anyone in this board so it must be viewed as a net positive around the league. Why else would it even be mentioned? From what little I know outside his game, Jones was known as a great teammate, a very intelligent, and engaged guy at the player union level. Those elements sure should lead people to think that's a positive hire for a front office that hasn't garnered many positive vibes around the league or in the public eye.
