I think the best trade with minimal loss is the Stix for Thad.

Another 3 and D guy like Covington from the blazers would be good insurance. But he makes too much. I don’t see too much from the rockets that we would like. I’m sure the Kings and pretty Ca aren’t trading with us.

Dario Saric for Robert Covington works.

I just don't see the Suns as getting anything for Stix unless he is just a throw-in to make the salaries match. We are not going to trade him by himself unless some other team wants a salary dump.

I think I would wait on Covington and see if Portland buys him out after the deadline. I also don't see him as a guy we would target in a trade, at least not where we're giving up anything the team remotely cares about. He is a terrible shooter and I don't see ol Bob Sarver wanting to pay that kind of money for a guy who might see 10-12 minutes a game on our team.

I messed with that but I’m sure Portland would want someone serviceable.

Also worked:

Stix
Nader
Kaminsky

For him.

Although that would require the Trail Blazers to trim their roster unless they waived a couple of players.

Not that I am in favor of the trade, but Portland has plenty of fat to trim, they also would likely just waive Kaminsky and possibly Nader too.

Covington could be a 3 & D player. He is on an expiring contract. It gives the Suns a 3/4 this season they don't have to pay next season.

If the Suns traded Saric for him it actually saves money since his contract is guaranteed next season.

I think that's what the Trail Blazers would do.

When I think about adding Covington I tend to think about defending the Warriors and Bucks.

I think we get by them by attacking their weakness, defense in the paint. Make them pack it in so our shooters can take advantage.
Have you not watched the games we have played against them?

We tried to attack them in the paint and it did not work. Their shooters are better than our shooters - most nights anyway.

It seems like their athleticism advantage is what kills us, especially on the offensive boards.

I think our best chance is getting another good wing defender. Not sure it will be enough, but I feel like we need to try.

I did. We were doing well while we did it. As always, we then go away from making sure the ball goes into the paint. We aren't relentless doing this. I watch games and see Ayton or McGee score a quick ten points, and then they never see the ball again for a whole quarter. That's what I see all the time with our bigs, which usually corresponds to when we go on droughts scoring in games.

Right and don’t forget about Monty going small against GS. Why on earth would you do that

Remember we were there within 2 minutes and Cp3 made a costly and uncharacteristic turnover.

Maybe because the game didn't really matter. No reason to show all your cards when it just doesn't matter.
I may be the only person not worried about GS in the playoffs. We eat that lunch 9 out of 10 times.
Steph can be stopped, Monte and Mikal know that. If we get a player that can play alongside DA that's not Jae or Cam no one can stop us.

But it does matter. Getting that 1 seed is going to be super important come playoff time

We just took back the one seed. It will be hard to hold onto for a whole season.

Jalen Rose suggests a trade where the main pieces would be Ayton for Sabonis.

My reaction--nah.

Yeah, especially since I would play Sabonis at PF. Then we have a hole at Center. If we could add him at PF while keeping the other starters, I would be OK with that. People keep suggesting this, but I don't see how this works for the Suns from a money standpoint. Ayton is still on that rookie contract, and Sabonis blows us up over the luxury cap, and likely we would need to move more of the team too. I just don't think this helps us as much as it would hurt us overall.

I'm not interested but if we decided to move on from DA for whatever reason I might consider Ayton, Saric and Shamet for Sabonis, Torrey Craig and Chris Duarte.

Not that I believe that offer would appeal to the Pacers, it's just the only workable deal I see there. But the perspective for most fans and probably TV personalities such as Jalen Rose is that the best asset in that deal is Sabonis so I'm sure they'd expect us to part with more supporting value than the Pacers would have to. But I like our defensive mindset and I can't see it working with Domantas patrolling the key instead of DA.

Moving on from DA would be a bad choice. We are hamstrung in signing Stix, so he could walk too. It would easy to end up with neither of them.

Indiana is considering moving on from him because you can't play him next to a center, it devalues both players. Sabonis is much better at the center position, so is Turner so Domantas is forced to play out of position for a good part of the game so that they can get the most minutes from their two best players.

That's why I think it's highly unlikely the Pacers would be interested in Ayton in a two team deal unless they're convinced that DA could actually make the switch to PF. And considering his greatest strength by far is his ability to anchor a defense, I can't see it making sense for them.

I don't want to hear anything from Jalen Rose after his previous comments regarding Deandre Ayton.

Whatever move we make, if any, should focus on right now and the playoffs this year. This is our window.

Yep. Jalen Rose is a Pacers fan by his own admission. This makes sense.

While I like Sabonis being able to make his own shot, I like DA's ability to alter shots a better fit for us. Our rising up the ranks is tied to us playing defense better. Ironically, if it was Sabonis' dad, I would be in for that. That dude could guard and rebound with the best of them!

The only problem with Jaylen's analysis is Ayton is our bell cow at center and eats up the most minutes. Watching McGee play as long as I have, he's not a long minutes type of guy. Stix we don't know. So that would make Biyambo our bigger minutes guy by default. Ayton can hit the midrange shot which opens up the middle for us. I guess even if we play Sabonis at center as our big minutes guy, that means our PF spot is still missing. Unless we make Cam Johnson play there to get his shooting on the floor.
