MESA! :thud:
I haven't been die-hard as long as most of you, but I have always at least followed the Cards. I remember when Simeon left, and I remember asking Harley his opinion on the matter, and he said something about putting a big red bow on Simeon's ass & he could kiss ours. I've always trusted Harley's opinion on football matters, so I understand why people wouldn't want him back.

BUT, our defense looks miserable. We need the help, and I'd be glad if we got him back.

We're not asking him to marry your daughter or teach a middle school english class. We want him to sack the opposing quarterback.

Tillman really wasn't that good, though. He was an average special teams player, but as a defensive back he was the same caliber as Fred Wakefield was as a DE.
I agree. People need to set aside their emotions and look at the football aspect only.

Yes to Rice...

I don't really care. I want to win. He'd help us better than the alternatives after losing Okeafor.

Exactly, losing Okeafor is a much bigger deal than many people realize, I always thought he would be perfect as a 3-4 backer. Rice would make us a better team, so I can get over some stupid comments he made awhile back.

How do you know he will perform at a level productive for us? He was miserable last season (only 2 sacks in 8 games), failed his physical, and historically he cannot stop run...

Which is exactly 2 more sacks than what either Blackstock or Pace produced last year.

I think it's funny that a "call from a friend" rumor has encouraged a four-page debate.

I liked Rice when he played in AZ. I didn't care for him as a person after his Tillman comments and his "armpit" reference. I still don't care for him all that much.

That said, I think if Dallas can get over TO standing in the 50-yard line star, I think we can get over the SiMEon Rice comments... that is, if he proves he can still play.

Surrounded by Rams and Chargers
1) Bidwill hates him
Does he know what day it is?

2) The community hates him
The community can get over it. "armpit" is not that bad.

3) Would the fans stoop so low as to hire a hated mercenary loud mouth punk like Simeon just to improve the team's passrush?
Yes Votes = 1

4) Did I mention that he screwed us over before? And chances are he might do it again.
How did he screw us? Many of us would have done the same thing...he wanted a ring and got one in Tampa. How many playoff appearances have we had since he has been gone? Zero.

69.5 sacks from 2000-2005 and we are not interested?

Yes he was a sack machine but his performances have dropped a bit.
2 sacks in 8 games for the 2006 season. I will give him another 8 games as a benefit of the doubt so he might of had 4 sacks if he played the entire season.

I personally think KVB has a better chance of returning than Simeon. KVB had 6.5 sacks last season.

Simeon would probably want a 30 million 3 yr contract with 20 guaranteed for his services and hazardous duty pay for playing for such a lowly, smelly franchise like us. After that he might request clauses like no practices or training camps and not to be utilized for running downs requesting only to utilized as a 3rd down DE playing solely on 3rd and longs or when the other team's offense need 20+ yards for a 1st down.

I still remember clearly how he made Dave Mac look like a idiot after agreeing to franchise money taking a physical and driving off during a training camp. Dave Mac was just dumbfounded. Poor Mac, he was never the same coach after that. The experience just killed his coaching career as he no longer was able to coach the team and barely won any games.

Very true... can't debat that!

I did not mean to imply that we should rather stick with these two underperformers, only that we should look at other options - waiver wires, etc. and pass on Rice. I just don't want this punk on this team whose capability has also declined recently.

Edit: Pace had 1.0 sack... so technically it is exactly 1 more sack :D

I still say screw this guy, I would rather have a bum on this team then this jerk. He did now want to be part of a solution, he played in a role of dissing the Cards. I will never be behind the jerk.

This is in Darren Urban's blog today:

I have gotten a few e-mails asking about the Cardinals and Simeon Rice. I got a chance to talk to general manager Rod Graves tonight and while Graves did look into the possibility of bringing Rice back to Arizona – Rice definitely had interest – the team has decided that for multiple reasons, Rice doesn’t fit into the Cards’ plans.

So - there ya have it.

Set aside what he said about the Cards and Tillman for a second.

Is Rice the type of player they need to replace Chike? Chike was going to be the hybrid OLB/DE with a lot of different responsibilities; rushing the passer, stuffing the run on that side, containment, and pass coverage. Rice is pretty much a one dimensional player……. He can flat out rush the passer but that is his only mindset.

I don’t think it is a good fit. Now if it was Berry that went down I would be all over the idea but with it being Chike I will pass.

Bringing up one injury riddled year doesnt really mean all that much.

You honeslty think that one experiance made Mac a bad coach? If it was then he was a far worse head caoch material then I thought.

Situational pass rusher.

Hold on..... Graves actually have a plan to address the loss of Chiki?

I like Simeon...he's quite possibly insane though. But he used to make me laugh. When I worked Cards Camp, he was pretty cool to me. I know everyone hates him, but I would be happy if he came in. His cancerous ways wouldn't be an issue in this lockerroom, I don't think.

We need his talent of rushing the QB, desperately.

With that said, I think there's about a 1% chance of him coming in, and that is if Bill thinks its some new guy named Simon Rice.

Simeon can still do one thing well according to Sports Center and that is rush the passer. Would make a decent 3rd down pass rusher. I think the Eagles or someone has been courinting him.

Players defending players and critisizing players

He did say that Tillman was an average player at best, but quickly retracted the comment when he caught grief.

Yesterday on a sports talk show two of the Falcon players called in strongly defending Mike Vick even thought he has pleaded guilty to what ever charges have been made. They made it sort of a racial thing. The Falcon's fan base is 52% African American on season ticket sales. That surprised me. The Falcons may not be as bad this year as everyone thinks. Many thought that Vick ran to much and designed plays never worked because he did not stick to the script. I have no clue. Atlanta may just turn out to be better than most people give them credit for. I am surprised that they have not come calling on Warner as he can still start in the NFL. We are fortunate to have someone with his talent as a backup for this year and next.
