Skeletons comments on KTAR

Did anyone else hear skeletons comments on 620 just now?

He was asked about the QB situation this year vs. Last year. He said things like "the chemistry in the QB room is ten times better this year then last year."

He also was asked about Derek Anderson and leinart..

He said they didn't help any of the rookies and "did their own thing". He said it bothered him. He and max hall had to figure out everything for themselves.

Gambo made a good point that Carolina signed Anderson to mentor cam. I wonder what they will think about skeletons comments. I would like for someone to ask Anderson, would love to hear his response

I don't know why anyone would think signing Anderson as a mentor was a good idea. Unless they thought that Brady Quinn, Max Hall, and Skelton showed the signs of great tutelage...

Hall looked like crap early on (meaning days one and two, lol) in camp last year, at least in my opinion.

I agree that it sounds like there will be more chemistry there. That is a good thing. I like my QBs happy (and completing passes to OUR team).

Of course they had their own agenda. Trying to keep a very lucrative job. I'd bet that things would have been much different if it had only been Leinart or Anderson instead of both with Skelator and Hall in camp last August.

I agree with this statement. But, I admit that I'm an unabashed Skelton fan.

I don't think Anderson was brought in to mentor Newton. He was brought in because the OC in Carolina was DA's OC in Cleveland during the only good year of his career. If Newton struggles, at least DA knows the offense.

Or, there's my other theory. They start the season with DA, the fans see how terrible he is, and all the pressure is off Cam. All year the fans will be happy no matter he does becsause they can always say, at least Derek Anderson's not back there.

I really don't have a problem with it for a couple of reasons.

1) It's on KTAR--a local station. Maybe it'll get picked up by Rotoworld or PFT, but I doubt that some comments by a second-team quarterback about the worst quarterback in the NFL are going to make a lot of ripples.

2) It's a sourced story--although I don't think those comments are going to go over well in a lockerroom. Guys generally don't talk bad about each other even when they know things are going bad. When word leaks out of the lockerroom like it did about DRC in the players-only meeting, that's usually a sign of a dysfunctional roster.

3) It's from a player, and not from a "team insider" (i.e., someone in the organization). Players will say what they want--I didn't really have a problem with Adrian Wilson implying that Antrel Rolle and Karlos Dasnby were freelancers because he didn't call out a player by name and it was guys in the brotherhood talking about one another.

But the quote in PFT was clearly someone in the organization trying to explain how they didn't completely get rolled in the trade, and at the same time talking about one of their four best players in a derogatory way. I had the same problem when Wolfley was doing it about Dansby both on this board and on his show. I have the same problem with Calvisi on Cards Underground saying that Jim Dray needs to pick up his special teams play when he was one of our best special teams players last year.

What I'm wondering is: Where were Wiz and the two Millers during all this?

Maybe I'm naiive, but if they were closely monitoring their QB's, shouldn't they have seen what was going on and "encouraged" DA to be a bit more helpful to the younger QB's?

I realize that everyone's supposed to be grownups and you can't overly micro-manage player-attitudes, but we're talking about an important aspect of the Cardinal culture here.

As for Skelton - I liked what I saw, given the situation. I think he has the physical tools to become really good if he develops to his max potential (but doing so is, by no means, a slam dunk).

This is part of the problem with compotition all the time. You don't give your edge to your compotition.

Some great teachers sometimes never have even played the sport in which they teach. Lou Holtz was considered a good or very good coach and he did not play in the NFL. Anderson has been in the league a long time. He may no longer be able to perform but that does not mean he cannot mentor or teach. Some all time great players cannot teach a lick. When it comes to teaching it is very different than playing. As an instructor pilot I often found pilots who knew everything in the book about flying and could pass any test on procedures or there aircraft but when it came to actually performing in the aircraft they sucked. Other very good pilots were worthless when it came to teaching.

Imparting knowledge is very different than performing. Do you think Barry Bonds would be a great batting coach? From his demeanor I would guess he would suck. Some ML batting coaches could not hit a lick when playing but do well as batting coaches.

If Anderson was not mentoring the young guys, I'm sure Whis and others on the staff saw that and told him about it. Just because they keep that in house and did not state Andersons attidtude does not mean they did not make an attempt. Professional football players are grown men (or they should be) and you cannot make someone do something. Our QB situation last year was crap, we really could not go "If you do not reach out more to the young players, we are going to cut you". Whis knows he screwed up with Anderson and Anderson is gone.
