Needs to be the first cut of the offseason, but he will probably drop his papers and it will not count.

No doubt in my mind he gets cut. I can't see Keim hanging on to him.

Man he sucks.

Housler is a total Keim pick. Keim called him a "superstar" at the beginning of the preseason. He's scored one TD since then.

Keim just kept Ryan Williams around for 17 weeks when he contributed nothing. Rob Housler actually had some catches and first downs and even a TD this year! He might get an 8 year contract extension.

I don't know what to think about Housler. I can see where scouts(Keim) and coaches love his potential and think they can make something out of him. But, at the same time, he leaves us shaking our heads with some the plays/non-plays he makes.

He obviously talented but, without any factual eveidence, it seems like he's not a hard worker or pays attention to details. I think if he did, we'd see alot more production.

He seems like the kind of guy you hope the light finally goes on but also, after so long, you may have to just make the decision to move on and if he tears it up with another team, then so be it.

I agree with a lot of this.

Cutting him now is just silly and a knee jerk reaction. He made some clutch catches today but also blew a TD catch. If I'm Keim I will try to ensure Housler starts the 2014 season as 3rd string which means a fairly early draft pick and a FA. This of course means Dray very well may not make the team.

He drops the easy ones or makes them look hard. Can't count on him to make the catches that a good TE makes. Compare him to other quality TE's and he does not measure up in any way.

He has to be replaced with a better quality TE that can catch and block.

Okay, but at this point the Cards don't have anyone better than him on the roster. Dray is slow, not athletic and a lousy blocker. Ballard is a bit better than that IMHO but BA doesn't agree. Who else we got????

So once again, cutting Housler at this point is simply silly. Get a FA or two and draft a TE or two and then we can talk.

I know that you've had it out for Jimmy Dray since he failed to be cut at the end of the preseason, but what's the deal here? Dray has earned a starting spot with this team, and has performed well in every reasonable circumstance the team has placed him in.

No, he's not going to block Aldon Smith one-on-one, but neither (really) is anyone. I'm not sure Bradley Sowell can block Aldon Smith one on one.

Jim Dray >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rob Housler.

But on this team, it is better having Dray as your 2nd or 3rd best TE than your first. We need to upgrade.

That's absolutely true. Dray is exactly what you want in a 3rd TE, though. You can't have Housler out there if he's not a starter, because you need someone who mostly catches the ball and someone who mostly blocks. Houlser can't do either with any consistency.

I have no problem bringing in another TE this offseason--I fully expected us to get Eifert in the draft last year. But Dray is a professional football player. He's not Fred Wakefield.

You need guys like Jim Dray on your football team.

When are you planning on digging into the college TEs?

Well Keim did ship off & cut bait of the biggest problem this team had...LT:p

I think BA & him are no nonsense football men who will give you the benefit of doubt the 1st time, then you be replaced the next. I see next years camp as both players last hurrah in the desert.

I was furious with Housler the entire game, for letting that pass drill him in the numbers in the endzone. I don't give a blank we still scored on that possession. Also don't care that he caught a couple of passes later in the game. Housler needs to go to Dallas ASAP!!! He's the fricking Romo of TEs!

I think Dray is what you want as your 4th TE. I respect Dray and his work ethic and he doesn't drop any balls when thrown to him. I just want to see this team upgrade the talent at the TE position.

I'm not sure why you "need" guys like Dray on your football team though.

Probably not until March. The guys will start to separate themselves a little bit by then, and the wonderful crowdsourcing that is YouTube will put together non-highlight cut-ups of prospects.

I'm not going to be trolled on Leonard Davis... er, Levi Brown. Just watch: we'll draft Taylor Lewan with the 20th pick in the draft, plunk him in #75 and play him at LT, and he'll continue to miss blocks and false start.

I think the distiction between 3rd and 4th TE is pretty slim. That far down the depth chart (a guy who's going to be inactive much of the time) should be more of a developmental player.

You aren't going to be a good football team if you have 35 Jim Drays on your roster--you'll be a Dave McGinnis football team. But you're not going to make the playoffs without 15-20 Jim Drays on your football team. Just solid football players who play for a low-ish salary that are veterans. Justin Bethel, Lorenzo Alexander, Jim Dray, Alameda Ta'amu, Rashard Johnson (whom I think we can all agree was massively overdrafted, but at his current salary and with his draft class far in the rearview mirror, I'm not going to bang on too much).

I like Dray. He makes plays here and there and I cannot recall him making mistakes. I am ok with him being the 3rd TE on this team.

He will end up in New England and be a super star.

Really? Lol

Dray was beat inside like a drum yesterday twice on short yardage runs! Housler's blocking is atrocious & Drays isn't good, so I will call it bad. Yesterday day wasn't Drays only bad day as a blocker either.

There must be a voodoo curse on TE's in AZ, because it's been an issue ever since Novacek & Awalt were let walking to Big D :bang:

Thanks for cutting my statement short. You missed this part.

The thing to appreciate IMO is IF we do get a better TE, Arians is going to be a genius.

I have been pointing out all year how often he uses Housler to get the other TE open especially in the redzone. it happened again yesterday literally 2 plays after Housler dropped the TD. they run them both to the same side and the defense always slides to Housler leaving the other TE open. On the play both he and Ballard were open but Ballard was wide open and thankfully Carson threw to him since he caught it and Rob likely would have dropped it.

If Arians is smart enough to do that with a guy with 1 career TD pass under his belt imagine what he could do with a real TE.

This statement is dead on. Under Whis it made no sense to draft a tight end early. Under B.A. it makes all the sense in the world because the #1 TE is going to play 80 to 90% of the snaps if he can block AND catch. I haven't seen enough of UNC's Eric Ebron to know if he's 'all that', but if he's the real deal, he would dramatically upgrade the offense IMO. And he sure looked good in the Saturday bowl game.

Eric Ebron is a bulked up hybrid WR. 6'4" 245. Does not inline block. Doesn't have the greatest hands. Rob Housler II ?

I saw what you wrote. It's my bad, I didn't explain myself.

Dray does make mistakes, like I said. His blocking is better than Houslers, but still not good enough IMO.

In BA's offense (especially the 2nd half of this year), we ran lots of 2 & 3 TE sets to protect the QB & help the run game. I would say or it appeared this took place around 40% of the offensive plays. In those 20-25 plays a game wouldn't it make more sense to have a guy on the field who can perform his job better than Dray? Personally, I think this team needs to start over & get rid of all 3 of these guys.
