ORL trade

WAS's future 1st rounder (top20 protected in 2004, top14 protected in 2005, top3 protected after)

PHO trade

rights to Vujanic

With Barbosa and Eisley on the roster it would be a bit hard to find PT for Vujanic. His contract would decrease Suns' cap room this and next summer.
WAS's 1st rounder may become a high lottery pick.

ORL has to show the effort for McGrady to avoid losing of him. Vujanic may be an upgrade over Lue. Plus he would make an immediate impact what you can't say about WAS's future pick.

Think again. It's almost guaranteed, even with the questions that exist, that Vujanic is a much more attractive option than Eisley.

I'm not sure he is "much" more attractive but I agree he is probably a more attractive one than Eisley.

But Suns don't have to hurry while ORL has. WAS's pick does have high value. It may be higher than Vujanic's.
My point with Eisley was that with such a huge contract he has to get some minutes (he still may be a decent backup) but you have just 48 minutes at PG for Vujanic, Barbosa and Eisley.

I got hooted down for suggesting the Suns start Eisley to showcase him. In any case, I suspect that Vujanic will be used as SG as much as at PG. His critics say he is not enough of a point guard, but no one doubts he can flat out shoot. On a team that struggles with zones, having Vujanic available will not be just a luxury.

Vujanic's game sounds a lot like Chauncey Billups, which is fine with me.

The classic PG is somewhat of a myth now. Look at the playoffs.

Kidd: Despite being a "classic" point guard is always in the top 3 in shot attempts on his team, often #1.

Tony Parker, Chauncey Billups, Dwayne Wade, Sam Cassell and at one time Gary Payton all look for their shot.

So your only true PGs in the playoffs are really Bibby and Kidd.

I don't suggest to showcase him. He is pretty much untradeable. Everybody has to accept this FACT. As I told he still may be a decent backup for 10-15 minutes. That means Suns don't really need another "who knows how good" unknown, scoring PG.

What Suns need is a few guys who can make their own shots and hit open jumpers. JJ and Shawn are better at going to the basket than shooting. Barbosa can't make his own shot and Jacobsen is strictly a catch and shoot three point specialist.

Part of the reason people think Vujanic may end up starting is that he will spread the defenses which otherwise will just pack in the paint. The main problem will be if he doesn't play well enough on defense.

Believe it or not, I didn't hoot you down. In fact, I stayed out of that thread.

What I think is more likely is that the Suns will want to start Eisley because ... he's the best PG on the team. So far, neither Barbosa nor Vujanic has shown any evidence that he can be an NBA point guard. Joe Johnson might be able to handle the obligation, but then again, he might not.

George is right when he says that Eisley was uncharacteristically awful last year. He's never going to be a reliable shooter or much of a distributor, but he can at least be decent. His '02-'03 numbers with the Knicks were actually respectable -- not anything to be really happy about, but not an outright embarassment. If he can return to that form next season, he'll very likely be the best option the Suns have.

Wow. You actually agree with me once. :band:

Seriously, I'm not sure there are any veteran PG's that would go for less than MLE that are going to be much better if the Suns need a veteran PG while the young guys develop. It's not like they would go out and get Eisley like they would someone else. Since they have to pay him anyway, he is effectively "free".

Of course if he plays as badly as he did this winter, then it doesn't matter. This does not eliminate my priority of getting his contract off the payroll.

I have a better feel for the value of Washington's conditional pick than I do for Vujanic's value. My guess is that we're talking about a pick that will fall somewhere between 10th and 15th, two years from now--what that's worth will depend pretty heavily on whether the league installs an age limit between now and then.

The fact is, though, that if Vujanic is good enough to start for Orlando, he's also good enough to help the Suns. It's not like the Suns are loaded at PG, either.

I doubt that the Suns could get anything of value for "the rights to Vujanic." We're talking about an unknown Euro guard whose stock seems to be dropping by the month -- remember not too long ago when he was "the best point guard in Europe"? -- never mind the fact that he may not even come to the NBA.

It's up to the Suns to try to get something out of him on the court. No one else is going to take up the challenge at this point.

How is his value dropping by the month? On these message boards it might be dropping, but otherwise it really hasn't changed as far as I can see. As far as I know the same people that were saying he is the best point guard in Europe six months ago are still saying it. Everybody still says he is a scoring point guard.

If it really looked like somebody could get him here next season there would be several teams trying to get him. I'm sure at the very least the Suns could get a late lottery to late first-round draft pick out of him. His value it also depend on how much was going to cost to get him here.

I've only watched three of Vujanic's games, and one of those was from several years ago. However based on the little I've seen I would rather have Ben Gordon or Devin Harris. I think Gordon will end up being a very good scoring point guard in the NBA. I also think he'll be much better at defending NBA point guards than Vujanic.

Having said all that, the way things are right now I don't think any team would give up a first-round draft pick unless it was lottery protected for the rights to Vujanic.
