With Beanie, Williams, and LSH locks to make the team, we're probably only going to keep 1 more RB. Who is your choice?

I'm leaning towards Powell right now, but would like to see how he looks earlier in these games against better defensive competition.

I don't think LSH is a "lock".

I like Powell. He has a knack for getting yards out of a small opening.

I really like Alfonso Smith, but how can you deny Powell. Yes, its against 3rd teamers, but the guy is also getting it done on special teams, kick returns, and catching out of the backfield.

I think, based on size, it should be LSH vs. Powell. That's why I voted for Smith, he's a little bigger. Don't think you can have two small backs.

I voted for Smith due to size also. If either Smith or Powell are presssed into significant playing time we are screwed anyway.

(Sob!) Powell.

But we need a short-yardage thumper. Guess it's gonna have to be Sherman. Maybe we could keep one less TE to make room for Funzie, but I don't think so.

Powell, I guess. I like Smith a lot for depth, though.

Is it a foregone conclusion that we can't keep both?

And, Shane, why don't you think LSH is a lock? Seems he's a core ST guy and someone the coaches love to put in the game on O for a handful of plays.

I'm going with Powell/ Special teams is one reason. He has great raw talent. He does it all, catches, runs with moxie and tackles.

LSH is a lock based on special teams kick coverage alone. The guy is a dynamo. Then he's the change of pace third down RB to boot.

Powell is a stud. I love the way he runs. At 5'9" 207 he's not comparable size-wise to LSH (5'7" and 185). He's more comparable (in size) to classic RBs like Emmitt, Sweetness, Faulk and Barry or contemporaries like Ray Rice and Gore.

LSH and Powell don't run nearly the same.

Didn't I read where the Cards were trying lock up LSH long term? How is he not a lock to make the team?

Umm, Shane hasn't posted here (sorry Shane that you get responsibility for my comments. Kind of funny, though).

But like I said in another thread. LSH is one of the top kick returners in the league. But that doesn't matter when the kickoff line is now at the 35 and everything is touchbacked.

That, IMO takes away 1/2 his value to the team.

He is a great receiving back, and very likable. Hope he makes it, but there are only 4 halfback slots on the roster and he is just not a great pure runner.

LOL. Sorry--to both you and Shane!

Did Shane used to have that avatar or something? Maybe I'm just getting old.

Never understood the liking of Smith. He's not nearly as shifty as Powell, although he's showing better vision this pre-season. In college his game was all about his open field, straight line speed. Something we haven't seen from him, ever.

No worries.

Yeah, both Shane and I have Cards defensive backs avatars wearing the red top and white pants. He has PP and I have AW.

Still kind of funny. Can't remember if it was you, but someone else replied to me and called me Shane.

Maybe time to bring back my golden retriever avatar?
