Plot Summary: An incendiary array of stars--including Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Peter Berg, Martin Henderson, Taraji Henson and, in their motion--picture debuts, Alicia Keys and Common--star in "Smokin' Aces," the new dark action comedy from Joe Carnahan, the acclaimed director of "Narc."

In these interlocking tales of high stakes and low lifes, Mob boss Primo Sparazza has taken out a hefty contract on Buddy "Aces" Israel (Piven)--a sleazy magician who has agreed to turn state's evidence against the Vegas mob. The FBI, sensing a chance to use this small-time con to bring down big-target Sparazza, places Aces into protective custody-under the supervision of two agents (Reynolds and Liotta) dispatched to Aces' Lake Tahoe hideout.

When word of the price on Aces' head spreads into the community of ex-cons and cons-to-be, it entices bounty hunters, thugs-for-hire, smokin' hot vixens and double-crossing mobsters to join in the hunt. With all eyes on Tahoe, this rogues' gallery collides in a comic race to hit the jackpot and rub out Aces.

Entertaining in spurts but I found the storyline muddled and some scenes completly over the top. I wish Piven hadn't taken the role as Aces because I respected alot of his acting work before this and love him in Entourage. Most every character in the film was undeveloped and thrown together. I don't want to spoil it for those that want to see it but I wish I had went with my first instinct and went and seen a comedy or the Departed again. This was like a really bad acted Pulp Fiction, Resevouir Dogs and not near as clever.

I recently watched this. I thought it was a pretty fun movie. Ryan Reynolds did a nice job. Matthew Fox looked hilarious in his getup.

I just watched it. Not what I was expecting.

I thought it was going to be less plot and more of just a violent eye-candy flick, more like The Transporter. Turns out I had to pay attention to figure out what was going on...and worse, I thought the dialog was poorly recorded so I missed some words here and there. I had the whole thing figured out and didn;t even know it. I thought Garcia had explained everything in the middle of the film.

I liked it okay. I think Ryan Reynolds is pretty good, loita is loita, Garcia is always excellent and Batmanuel is pretty good too.

I really enjoyed this film.... until the conclusion. It twisted and turned and went WAY over the top, and then delivered one of those standard, contrived, completely predictable hollywood endings. I felt totally let down by that film. Too bad too, because i really dug 99% of it...
