I did when I was 5 or 6 and I went to the Cardinals-Oilers game. I was rooting for the Oilers and my dad taught me the importance of rooting for the home team. So I just stuck with them until now, but my dad is no longer a fan, at least not a very good one.
So how did you guys become Cards fans?

My father was an avid Eagle hater and his joy at watching a Cardinal drubbing of the Eagles 44-0 back in the 60s planted the seed in me, although I didn't understand what was going on and took a couple of years to be an active football fan.

I was born in St. Louis, moved to California at 18 months but when I discovered sports I became a Cardinal fan instantly, both football and baseball. Part because of where I was born, part because I loved the Cardinal football uniforms and that team (75) was so exciting.

I grew up about 2 hours north of St. Louis. The Cards used to have training camp in Charleston (Eastern Illinois University) and my grandmother lived in the next town over (Mattoon). So my brother and I went to "TC" every year (starting at about ages 6 and 10) and still do. "Holian" actually went to college at Eastern (I believe there was definitely a connection there) but when it was my turn they'd already moved to Phoenix so I went elsewhere. Financial means and certain international events (I am in the military) have kept us away for a few summers, but I come back to the valley of the sun whenever possible. Right now I am in Monterey CA and cannot wait for the Oakland and 49er games for which I have tickets!

It's the only team we have here. I am from AZ but where ever I would live, I would support the team from that city no matter what thier record. I can't stand these bandwagon transplants that root for whatever team is having success this season (I know of several). There was a guy in SDS that wore an opposing team jersey to every game last season. What an idiot!

I just started slowly liking them when they came here and by the time we got season tickets in '93 I was rabid.

Same here. Phoenix was the first city I lived in that had an NFL team.
I started as a Coyboy fan when I was a kid, but I lived in Killeen, TX at the time (74-79), which coincided with the Staubach/Dorsett years. I didn't know anyone then that didn't follow the Cowboys.
I picked up on the Dolphins in 79 when I moved to Kansas City and followed them through HS.
In 87, I moved back to Phoenix (ASU) and dropped the Dolphins for a "west-coast" team, so I picked the Seahawks over the 49ers - Gotta love that Bosworth!
The Cards came to town in '88 and I've stuck with them ever since. Actually my fate was sealed with the comeback win over the 49ers at SDS. Prior to that game I was a back-and-forth Seahawk/Card fan.
I only thought of jumping ship once since that time.... During the Panthers inaugural season. I had moved to the East Coast and though I should drop my Cardinal loyalties. However, with the advent of the internet, it's much easier to support a cross-county team. Sites like this one allow me to be more informed of the team than I was back when I actually lived in Phoenix.

When my Broncos got stuck with Jake Plummer
Jake plays a bit better for my Broncos but I wish Denver would follow AZ and bring out Cutler now. But this isn't the Denver Sports Fan Network so I'll shut up about that.
I know some die hard cardinal fans and have to respect their dedication. I also truly feel bad for the players. I have not missed one Arizona snap this season and find myself rooting for the Cardinals. Yesterday, I was actually pacing back and forth and jumping up and down and then was just pissed at the end. This team has so damn much talent on it. Why does Denny always find a way to lose? The hurry-up offense was dismal due to bad play calling and poor clock management. WTF was with that WASTED time out? It's GOT TO BE THE COACHING!!
Hang in there Card fans! How much worse can it get? Oh, yeah. Chicago's coming in next week.

Dismal? Matt ran the final drive well, maybe an 8 out of 10. The only real complaint is that he should have spiked the ball after the 1st down to Edge, instead of throwing a 4 yard pass to him, and then spiking it.

Matt did a fantastic job with the hurry-up offense. The play calling and clock management in that sequence was Denny Green's responsibility and not handled very well.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but you will be a fan of the Arizona Cardinals and, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness."
