Was it his booming kicks? or because he's Rackers BFF?
When was the last time Rackers actually boomed a kickoff?
Players on a MUST RELEASE list this offseason:
- Dirk Johnson
- Eric Green
- Matt Ware
Anyone else?
They weren't the boomers that made him a real weapon. A couple of years ago his kicks were unreturnable. The stuff today they just chose not to bring it out.If I'm not mistaken Rackers had 3 touchbacks today.

Also, it beats me why don't we have the #2 QB be the holder??? Much easier to execute fakes. How in the hell do you overthrow one of the tallest guys on our team
terrible punter.
matt should be the holder, and if he had to throw he could actually, you know...throw.
No reason at all that he shouldnt be holding.

Has anyone ever directly asked Coach Whiz why this has been the plan since he's been here? I just wonder what the thought process is to having the punter hold as opposed to the backup QB?This is one of the stranger ideas that the team is married to. The punter has been the holder since one bar was here. The difference was that Player was a good holder.
Even after we got rid of Barr, we put the new punter in as holder rather than giving it to someone who Rackers was already familiar with. It's clearly not Racker's call or he would have gotten rid of Barr earlier last year.
It can't be Whisenhunt's idea since the concept predates him. That pretty much leaves Graves or higher up in management. Actually it is more likely that it is just one of those "Well that's the way we have always done it" things

There's an "Ask the Coach" thing he does for the website. Spam him and find out.
I agree, that in the offseason if Warner's re-upped then the team takes a long look at Leinart as a holder. It makes sense.
But Rackers has been good this year. As bad as Johnson is, I wouldn't risk screwing up our K's mentality.
Why the hell is everyone so worried about it screwing up Rackers mentally? What exactly is the difference between wide-left and a perfect snap left unkickable spinning on the ground?
His confidence level. Kickers win games, for better or worse, so I'd rather Rackers believe he can make any kick and that screw ups are on the shoulders of anyone else. That ensures that he believes he can make any kick in any situation.
Right or wrong, it's been said that changing holders screws with him so let's not add to bad play by then having Neil start missing kicks to boot.
I understand Racker's supposed fragile psyche, What I'm saying is.. If the holder can't take a perfect snap and place it, does anything else matter?
These botched extra points are pissing me off, I think they totally change the complexion of the game.
:safe:
The "fragile psyche" thing is very over played. He didn't like one holder because the ball would spin when it was placed. That is it.
Everyone has a comfort level they work with. The offensive line thrives based on comfort and trust. Corner's trust safeties and that allows them to gamble. It's a team game.
Do you think it's something that the Cards need to address now, or should it keep?
