Although my $$ is on Thibordeau(sp), or one of the other names that have been mentioned I'm going to toss out a name that might have potential..

He's a former Sun

Was a decent defender and a dirty worker when he was w/ the Suns

Is an assistant now with a very successful and tenured coach.

Has dealt w/ veterans

Defensively I think he'd be fine, but I'm just not sure about the offensive end.

Any guesses??

Ty Corbin... Assistant for Jerry Sloan.

As long as we're throwing out names, I believe that Patrick Ewing has said that he wants to be a coach. He could definitely teach STAT a thing or two about defense.

Because Rambis/Laimbeer look like long shots, I'm warming to the idea of hiring Paul Silas to be the head coach for a couple of more years, and put a former player under him that he can train to take the reigns after we finish rebuilding.

I'm actually surprised that Avery Johnson hasn't been given more of a chance. Him and Kerr are both Pop guys who want to play defense but are capable of mixing in offense.

One problem I always remember Johnson having in Dallas was the lack of a post game. He was a believer in having guys in their natural positions, but inherited a small ball team from Don Nelson.

I believe with the age of our roster, we can't hire a first year coach. EJ, Hornaceck, Thibedou all might be good coaches, but I'm not sure how the players will respond to them.

true...you need to bring in a guy that these vets will respect.

as far as lute olsen??? good one. Not even the lakers and their big time brass could steal coach K away from duke. these college coaches have it so much better. They have more control and the players actual listen to them from time to time.....sarcasm.

I really can't get excited by Avery Johnson. IMHO, he knows absolutely nothing about offense. Any team with Dirk, Terry, Howard, and Stackhouse should be a top offensive team. But this year they shot 46.4% leaves me cold. Even when the won 67 games, they shot only 46.2%. This is only top third in the NBA and a long way from the Suns 50%

Against the Hornets the Mavs shot 40.1% with Jason Kidd as his PG.

If nothing else, I cannot stand his squeeky, whinny voice. It grates like no other voice I can think off.

too much is made of his voice. the numbers speak for themselves.....but 46.4 isn't bad is it? could be better I guess. 50% isn't much better if you aren't playing D at the other end.

The problem I have with Avery is he turned that team into a jump shooting team. The Mavs points in the paint was horrid. If you have a coach who relies on this team making jump shots, I don't think it's conducive to winning a title.

I think he is probably a better defensive coach then D'Antoni but his offensive style scares me.

I agree somewhat. although the one thing he always talked about was the team getting to the basket. so he either lied to the press or the team didn't listen to him. the year they made it to the finals they actually were getting to the basket a lot as well. one thing to think about is that the mavs have a lot of players who feel they shoot the ball well. and for some reason they keep shooting if they are off the mark. dirk and howard can get the FT line a lot....but that's about where it ends. especially with the loss of devon harris who lived in the paint. jason kidd just can't be relied upon to score in the halfcourt. his best offense is the wide open 3...but he can be very streaky with that shot. that's were I don't understand the trade. harris was great in the halfcourt as a scorer and was getting better as a set up guy. and he is as fast in the fast break as anyone else is in the NBA. just ask tony parker who was happy when the mavs made the trade. terrible trade.....I felt it then and I feel it now. and I hope the mavs can rebuild and they can with their current personnel. but I really liked devin harris and thought he had a bright future in a mavs uniform beyond just the present. so if avery endorsed the trade or if he pushed it.....I'm glad he's fired.

Ya know, I'm starting to warm up to the Kurt Rambis idea. Just read his profile on Wikipedia and he fits the description of what Kerr is looking for. The only problem I see is that he's been a lifelong Laker.

He did play for the Suns too, and was well liked. Remember Suns fans wearing their Clark Kent glasses to the games?

I can tell you that the local radio media has said that the Suns have ruled out Doug Collins or Jeff Van Gundy.

Word is that Memphis mgmt has reluctantly decided not to fire him. . . yet. Memphis mgmt should fire itself.

Yep. This is the coach I want, and I think we could get him easily.

I just hope Kerr is smart enough to let Amare, Nash, Shaq be part of making this coaching decision. It would be a bad idea to bring in anyone these guys may not respect or have issues with.
