Greenville dropped its regular season finale 4-0 at home on Friday night to McKinney North but is still headed to the soccer playoffs.

Adan Rajendran scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs to victory as they completed District 9-5A play with a 12-1-1 record to finish second in the district standings to 12-0-2 Walnut Grove.

The Lions completed district play with a 5-6-3 record to finish fourth in the district standings behind Walnut Grove, McKinney North and 9-4-1 Lucas Lovejoy.

Trailing Greenville were 3-7-4 Melissa, 3-9-2 Sherman, 2-9-2 Anna and 0-10-3 Denison.

The Lions secured a playoff spot for the fourth straight season and will open the Class 5A, Division II playoffs with a bi-district match against Jacksonville at 5 p.m. Thursday at Forney City Bank Stadium in Forney.

Jacksonville is 15-2-3 for the season and finished second to Mount Pleasant in District 10-5A with an 11-2-2 record.

“We’ve got some guys that are getting back from injuries,” said Greenville coach Christopher James.

He said the Lions played without three injured starters against a “good” McKinney North team.

Making the playoffs for the fourth straight season is a big deal to the Lions, according to James.

“It’s been pushing 15 years since we had four playoff years in a row,” he said. “We’ve had a different group every year.

“Our guys know what success takes, they’ve been living it,” he said.
