On Sunday night, the No. 2 seeded Alabama Crimson Tide were back in NCAA Tournament action, facing off against the No. 7 seed Saint Mary's Gaels in the second round of March Madness.
With a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line, this East Region contest played out in favor of the Crimson Tide as well, with Alabama eventually coming away with an 80-66 second round victory over the Gaels to keep dancing deeper into March.
In the win, Alabama certainly impressed against the WCC regular season champions, limiting Saint Mary's to only 34.3% shooting from the field, while also shooting 51.8% themselves, as well as 7-of-17 from three-point range. Alabama also had six different players score in double figures as well, led by guard Chris Youngblood with 13 points.

With a win tonight vs. Saint Mary's, Nate Oats will be the first Alabama coach since Wimp Sanderson (1984-87) to reach 3 consecutive Sweet 16s

The skill and athleticism of Alabama is just overwhelming St Mary’s right now.
If not for the turnovers and free throws, this would be a 20+ point lead.

80 points scored by Alabama tonight is the most amount given up by Saint Mary’s since 2022.
Alabama’s pace was too much for even this defensive setup to handle. Phenomenal win in the R32.

Since Nate Oats has been at Alabama, Bama has played 20 games on “short” turnarounds (games with 0 or 1 day of rest).
With tonight’s win over SMC, Bama improved to 17-3 in these games. 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament, with an average margin of victory of 14.6 points.

Final
Alabama @ 1.14 ppp
St. Mary's @ 0.94 ppp
Great performance by Bama, maintaining a healthy lead for most of the game. Defense was solid throughout. Strong rebounding on both ends resulted in Bama having a slight edge in 2nd chance points.

Props to Nate, Brian, Ryan and Preston. Phenomenal gameplan tonight. Game went exactly how we wanted it to go. At no point in the 2nd half was I ever stressed. 9 point lead against St. Mary’s is like a 15 point lead against most SEC teams.
