This team has just had what appears to be one of their best drafts ever. According to TSN, we got the number 1 ranked WR, the number two ranked OLB, the fifth ranked DT on day one. These are where you get your impact players that can actually contribute in their first season and this team got some at great value as well. Day 2 is about depth and the team has done well. They drafted the number 2 and 3 ranked centers, and the number 6 ranked QB. The only player that looks like a typical Cardinal pick of old is DE Antonio Smith but maybe Green and Graves saw something in him we don't. If anyone was looking for the starting CB help we need on day 2 of the draft, then you don't really know much about football. Green will make this team a winner, this draft seems to have little of that dreaded potential tag as so many past Cardinal picks.

Thank you Green and Graves

I was hoping for a CB but it just never happened. I'm not a scout so I can't tell if a 4th round corner is better than Renaldo Hill. Maybe this was just a bad draft year for corners.

Day one was an A in my book....day 2 proabably a B.

Fitz was the #1 player period on many boards and the other 2 dropped to us which is our fortune and somebody elses misfortune.

I might have taken a flyer on a small college CB....but that probably wouldn't help us next year.

Most of the guys taken in the draft could help us next year.

You put it well. Even though I don't like Dockett and Smith I have to agree. Overall a solid draft.

Go Cards.

Barring the rumored injury Will Poole would have definately been "help" at corner on day two. Other than that, I have to agree with you.

Jetstream, I guess we will just have to disagree.

I don't understand some of these picks, and feel that there was better talent on the board. As far as TSN, I've seen that they are fairly leniant in their ratings. They graded 6 wide receivers as FRANChISE players, 6. If that is the case, than Lee Evans is a hell of a lot better than I give him credit for. My point is that TSN is a nice place to get names but there rankings are consistantly high. Yes we did get two of the better C prospects, but the best at a weak position isn't necessarily that good.

as I've said, I see the need for Stepanovich, but the Leckey pick is basically the same type of player.

Pro-football Weekly guide ranking

We got the 9th ranked QB with our last pick in seven
We got the 7th ranked DL player at pick 3, ProFW included DE and DT together
We got the third ranked LB, ranking included MLB and OLB
We got the 10 ranked OL, the whole OL was inlcuded in the rankings.
We got the number one ranked WR

That is pretty good removed from TSN.
CB was not a very good position this year if you where looking for sure fire shutdown corners.
Green did not reach, we have players that actually have a chance and not just camp fodder.

Didn't we do well or what?

;)

We did well...

Green uses the draft to built the "belly" of the team. Which is how I believe it should be done. He understands you have to take the BEST player EVERY year, and eventually you should have a team full of talent.

Sign Free agents to fill needs, that the draft was not able to fill.

We needed ever pick we got. We do have a log-jam at DE, but Green knows alot more than any of us...

Also, the LB & DT pluss Berry WILL improve our pass rush tenfold. That in itself has upgraded our secondary...

I do think we need another solid CB, and was eyeing POOLE. My guess is, Green is so focused on winning NOW, that he isnt gunna waste a pick on a CB that might not play this year.

My question is how do we win now, when our secondary is as thin and weak as it was last year.

What is YOUR source for talent ranking? I'm not trying to knock you, but you keep saying there was better talent availble, sez who? Green picked the Best Players Available based on info from PROFESSIONAL scouts and his own talent evaluation.

Far be it for you you or I to argue with that.

Good question unfortunately I don't the answer for that one. Maybe Graves will issue a statement telling us not to judge the CB after training camp?

I don't think thats quite right.

Starks will play this year, and while far from a lock for 16 games, he is still our best CB, and Macklin should be an upgrade from Barrett. Hill made good progress last year, and should thrive back at the nickle spot.

Who knows, there might still be plans to add another CB, McKenzie maybe?

Correct me if I'm wrong.... By improving the Cardinals pass-rush (which they have upgraded tremendously), would this cause the opposing QBs to rush their passes and probably force them to be off target most of the time? If that's the case, then the CBs we currently have are adequate regardless... Plus, perhaps Starks is healthier than most are lead to believe...The reason I make that claim is that it could have been some sort of smoke-screen on the Cardinals part not to reveal his actual status....

I don't see the "tremendous" upgrade...Berry is it. Everyone else is an unknown, we have to HOPE that Pace, Bryant etc can get to the QB, the potential is there but a "tremendous upgrade"? C'mon...

We knock the opposing teams QB on his rear end. That will be the difference this year on D. (As well as having Mean Joe not coaching our DL). We will finally see a pass rush.

I believe Dansby and Dockett will help solidify the DL and anchor it for years to come..... I also subscribe to the theory that the new coaching staff is also an immediate upgrade as well....

Perhaps it's too premature to deem it as "tremendous" though, but quite frankly anything is better than what they demonstrated last season....

I don't see how anyone can complain about this draft. The only even questionable pick was the DE from Ok St.And that's only because nobody had ever really seen him play or gave him much thought. It's like someone else said, he's got to be better than Fred Wakefield. It seems like some people expect the Cards to pick an instant starter with every pick. All 6 other picks are very good picks. The key to the late round is getting guys who make the team.I think all 7 picks this year will be on the opening game roster.

Watch some tape on Dansby rushing the passer at Auburn, that should lift your spirits. :D

A Man-Child, I tell you, along with Dockett, and Berry. King is going to be freed up more just by scheme alone and having to respect Dockett and Dansby on pass rushing downs. We were inept, now we aren't, that is a tremendous upgrade IMO.

Doing it in college is one thing doing it in the pros is something else entirely, I watched Wendell Bryant absolutely destroy opponents in college and that has yet to translate to the pros. I remember a LB from Washington who was a terror as well--name slips my mind, was PAC 10 defensive player of the year as a Junior returned for his Senior year and was drafted in the middle rounds--he never amounted to anything either. Or should we mention Thomas Burke--didn't he set a sack record in college? I could go on with a bunch of other players I thought had IT but never amounted to much as pros...

Seeing is believing and until I see it I can't consider it a "tremendous upgrade". I need to see it on the field...consistently.

Hey I am not unhappy with the draft, just cautious because I think our secondary is sub par and we play 2 teams in our division that can air it out with the best of them(Seattle & St Louis). Can you honestly say the secondary doesn't worry you?

Then how do you judge talent if you don't judge by what they did in college against top opponents?

Do you use their high school tapes?

Do you use the wonderlic scores or the combine numbers?

Do you go to Madame LeDouches on Bourbon Street?

Tell me how to correctly 100% determine how successful a player will be in the NFL?

If I had that answer I'd be paid millions and be the most sought after scout or GM in the NFL.

Nobody has that answer not Ron Wolf, not Bill Walsh, nobody...there is no such thing as a 100% perfect draft for anyone.

I just think workouts/college game tapes/interviews/tests whatever only give you an indicator of how good someone could possibly be and not always totally accurate on how good someone WILL be...that answer will only be shown on the field.

The DL will be much improved. However they may just go from terrible to average.
