It's actually not that surprising he wasn't really threatening to blow up the plane they knew he was kidding they simply arrested him because he wasn't cooperative. They still have a hearing on it but the description says they will let him tell his side, admonish him, and give him advice on how to avoid it again. I assume that's fairly normal once they determine you don't really have a bomb and had no actual intent to harm anybody.

What will be interesting is how the 49ers handle it, will they just continue to keep him because he can really play, or will they dump him because they're tired of the baggage he brings.

I'm more skeptical. If this incident involved some "ordinary Joe", I believe there would have been more of a penalty than saying, "Don't do that again, ok."

I guess we don't know, I've heard that saying you have a bomb is an automatic arrest in an airport but I don't know if that necessarily means you're going to actually get more than a slap on the wrist if you were clearly joking.

His problem is with his past history I think we all assume he's got a few strikes against him and will be treated harsher. I think they should just drop him but I fully expect SF to try and hang on to him because he can play.

And frankly if they do drop him some other team will sign him and play him as soon as the NFL reinstates him.

I do not think the charges being dropped will prevent the NFL from acting on some kind of suspension. I think the NFL applies penalties according to how a player's actions reflect on the league and it does not matter if he slips past a legal punishment or not :)

This...

And Russ is correct. There was no credibility to that threat. His smart a remark got him hooked up and screwed his travel plans. TSA is the biggest waste of time IMO. I think those guys are just standing around, bored to death, just waiting for a J/A like him to come along. How many bottles of baby formula can you test and the stench of every random persons feet can one possibly handle before they want to do something exciting like ruining the day of an over-paid idiot pro-athlete?

Now that statement you made is pure BULL****. you never ever joke about Blowing up anything at an airport. Never ever. Our bought and paid for Commissioner Roger Goddel has the wrong type of Value Judgements. I guess that smoking Pot is more dangerous than stating that you will blow up a plane. Rodger needs to be replaced. Also the Kid the used PED gets a slap on the wrist. It is time that this country starts to become more compassionate when people have a true medical problem like addiction, buy getting them help, not the NFL way of help but true medical help.

So I guess that Rodger is more like the old NBA Commissioner who played favoritism to the Spurs that cost the Suns an NBA Championship. I guess Rodgers team is the 49ners. Don' t you live in the Bay area Russ...???

Who cares where Russ lives, he's clearly a Cards fan. Secondly, what in the world does Roger Goodell (or even Rodger Goddel) have to do with this? Roger Goodell didn't let him off the hook, he had nothing to do with the decision to not file charges. As for getting people medical help for addiction. I agree that should be done but it should be done in addition to holding them accountable for their actions. And I'm pretty sure this is exactly what the league does. Finally, the Spurs won the series on the court - end of story. Our guys were dumb enough to rush the floor and we paid the price.

As a Spurs fan Bobcat, forgive me when I find myself laughing silly when someone thinks a commissioner in any professional sporting league gives any consideration to any small market team over another, being it's Phoenix or San Antonio. Let it go dude, nobody cares about the Suns or the Spurs and they hate it when either one achieves anything the big market team does not lol

Tell you what Russ. You go into an airport, do your best Ben Stiller impression and start yelling bomb, and let me know how you make out. Of course that will be after you do 5-10 in the federal pen.

Is that what really happens? I have no clue. I know you're going to get arrested but if it's clear that you had no bomb, had no intent and were actually kidding, do they routinely send them to prison for 5 plus years? Considering how many people get suspended sentences for real crimes I wouldn't be shocked to discover that many courts look for a way not to incarcerate in a situation such as this. As I said though, I have no clue.

I'm really hoping that Aldon Smith gets his head on straight and is productive both off and on the football field.

Why do so many people believe this. You would be surprised at just how many "ordinary Joe's" get off with just a slap on the wrist.

Yep a guy I grew up with killed a woman drinking and driving and only got

six months. He was an ordinary factory worker.
