Just saw Mort on ESPN...he said: "I never spoke directly to Whisenhunt, just to a source who said that Warner has been the better QB in camp and that there is an "expectation" that Warner will start.

He also said that Whiz took umbrage to his report, claiming that Mort was making the decision for him...which Mort said wasn't his intention...his intention was to report the "expectation."

Now, Jaws was just interviewed and he said that it was clear to him while observing the cardinals training camp that Warner is by far the best for the Cardinals' vertical passing game...and that he was surprised Leinart was named the starter when warner threw for 21 TDs, leading the Cards to 30+ points a game and a 5-3 record the second half of the season.

Only the Cardinals...will it ever end?

We see it...ESPN sees it...Shane saw it...Somers sees it and has been up front about Warner having the better camp...and everyone else close to camp saw it...yet, Whiz just affirmed that Leinart is still the starter.

Either Whiz is another ridiculous puppet to management, or he's just plain ignorant. Take your pick.

The only reason this is a story is because there is a former NFL/Superbowl MVP involved in the mix, who happened to have a resurrected year last season. My argument all along: why torpedo the guy's confidence after one game. That goes to the credibility of the coach. Im sure the conversation between Whiz and Leinart involved many explitives, but it sounds like Leinart received the message

Mitch -- is Whisenhunt ignorant, or stupid? I'm confused.

Or maybe, as a so-far successful head coach in the NFL, he knows more about football than ESPN, Chris "Cowboys" Mortensen, soccer Moms cheering for Warner at camp, the knee-jerk armchair coaches on messageboards, Shane, Danny Boy, Will Rogers, Rooster Cogburn and Rosco P. Coltrane.

?

I think Whis said exactly what needed to be said at exactly the right time. I gained a lot of respect for coach Whisenhunt today. The fans and pundits' opinion should not be reported as fact. The fans are going waaaaay over the edge and Whiz looks like the classiest and smartest person of everyone. That's nice to know, since it's his decision to make & his football club.

My head did explode. I can't stand injustice and there is no justice in this. No one can make a good argument for Leinart to be the starter, not even Whisenhunt.

Kurt Warner deserves much better than this.

So does the team.

I think I'll go join blinseyed's birthday party at Sandy Beach and do a few beer bongs. Later.

I've been a supporter of giving Leinart every chance in the world, but after Saturday, I can't even make a case for him.

When I said, "Let Warner Start", my buddies all looked at me like I was an idiot. The standard response was, "We know what we'll get in Warner: a 9-7 season, where his turnovers cost us 2-3 games, and we miss the playoffs." (I know, my friends are all psychic)

Call me stupid, but I think a "disappointing" 9-7 season is better than what Matt has shown he can deliver.

I still think Whiz will name Warner the starter just before the 49er game. There is no reason to announce his choice now. Warner knows he won the job. Keep our first opponent guessing...

At least that is what I hope his game is...

If Leinart costs us even one game, with Kurt still available on the bench, there will be a blood-letting like we've never seen.

I like what Leinart had to say about the game & his mistakes.

Me too he took the blame for where he threw the ball and said it was on him but he was prepared to play the game.

Still wish he'd looked better but at least he gets what he did wrong.

that was the thing that drove me nuts with Jake for X years he'd throw a pick and then tell reporters after the game I was trying to make a play, it was a bonehead decision, I have to stop doing that, lather , rinse , repeat.

Hopefully Matt will learn from the mistakes. If not I'm fairly confident Whiz will go to Kurt.

Have you guy ever pondered whether this is all a front?

Warner showed last year, like a good vet, he can be ready on short notice. Leinart on the other hand is low on confidence and ******* and moans when he doesn't feel loved. Perhaps Whiz is just giving Leinart the whole offseason/preseason to attempt to prove himself. If he doesn't, Whiz can always turn to Warner when the games count.

Watching and reading. My filter is different and I think I have a good handle on Whisenhunt's messages. And a lot of faith in his coaching ability.

There is no doubt in my mind that Warner will start in San Francisco.

If Matt Leinart starts, I fully support him because I trust Whisenhunt. Bring on the season.

No jocksniffing from me. This is the best and deepest team we have ever had here. 10-6 is well within reach, regardless of who starts at QB.

When did that ever happen? As much credit as Warner gets (and he deserves it) for being a good teammate, Leinart has been just as good. Everything he's ever said to the media has been positive and humble. Bitching and moaning when he doesn't feel loved? That makes no sense at all.

Both took snaps from the first team and it said no one was named the starter for opening day yet. Whiz is playing us all, including the 49ers.

OK, before this one grows wings and Leinart is a malcontent that wants to be traded, when has he bitched and moaned?

Yup as he should. I don't care who is named the starter, I'm just sick of the arguments based on one preseason game where Warner didn't play that well either.

Hell we could look back at games Warner had last year and say he doesn't deserve to start either. It is what it is. Let the coaches decide
