Catfish pretty much echoed my own frustration with the FO...there was no need for Joey Porter and especially no need for Kurt Warner to have to threaten going elsewhere in order for the Cardinals' FO to get their act together.
The proof is, had the Cardinals negotiated the deals they wound up signing from the start, they would have avoided the drama and the ensuing angst that did not have to incur.
Sometimes you HAVE to make statement signings. Penny pinching in those situations is counter-productive.
This is the essence of my rant last week...have the financial parameters in place...if the players aren't willing to work within the parameters then move on...but don't have the players in and then twiddle your thumbs and then offer a low-ball deal...it does not promote confidence in any way.
It would be great to see more of this since it would be less stressful for the fans Edge signinig happened that way. My question is how many teams use this same strategy and how many sign players when they first visit?
My point is that we DON'T know that all of this is Graves fault. There is this guy who owns the teams and signs the checks. Graves very well could have told bow tie that Warner will command this much and this is what we should offer. Bow tie shakes his head and says let him eat ice cream. Then Michael says, "Dad, let's keep trying to sign Kurt". Then MB tells RG that he will get his bow tie to sign the check but it will take longer then necessary.
My little rant has much a chance of being accurate then any other thoughts out there. In fact if you really follow how this Front Office has operated over the years you can see how things are changing over time.
With Whis's new deal just being inked we now are experiencing a very active FA period. This tells me that Whis got some assurances from the Bidwills and some more power. I doubt he was given a blank check so we will still see some bow tie issues.
