There has to be more to it than "several processors stacked on top of eachother". Otherwise the stupid chip would heat up your entire house :D Even with all that speed, there are software limitations. We can't make programmers a thousand times better either. It's still a great thing though, now programmers can't use the excuse, "hardware is holding us down, so we removed a feature or two... uhh... about 50 to be exact."

My thoughts exactly. That entrie article doesn't mention power consumption or heat dissipation.

I also have my reservations about such a powerful processing unit being used in a video game console first. You would think this new processor would first be used in regular computers, since the applications for CAD, high end video editing, 3D modeling, scientific calculations, etc would be far more benficial than being able to make video games look better.

As for Microsofts reaction with the XBox Next, supposedly it will have 3 G5 processors working together.

Oh yeah, and let's not forget that you're console is only as fast as you're slowest part. I wonder how many processing cycles will be wasted just sitting there waiting for the rest of the system to catch up.

Got one for Christmas (or a late Christmas present) and haven't been disappointed.

I still use my PS2, but Xbox is more than marginally better.

I have all three. Call me a homer but I prefer the Gamecube to all of them. Faster load times IMO and is just a great machine.

I have all three too.

It depends one what kind of games you play, and each system has their own strengths.

Supposedly (according to a game magazine I get, Game Informer) there is a PC game console coming out. Play PC games on your TV....sounds like a good idea.

There are already ways to do this without a console. I would say the average user would find it difficult to set up though. So it's not really a console, just a simplified monitor-to-TV converter?

Yeah I saw that - but TV resolution is much worse than what is capable on your computer monitor. If you had a HDTV that would be different.

I believe, though, that it's strictly a game player--it wouldn't be exactly like hooking your PC up to the television. There probably would be a lot of different components more specifically aimed towards gaming.

Exactly. From what Game Informer said (or at least what I remember), it will be a 3 Ghz processor, and will be set up just to play games.
