Good questions, I like some of your answers.

I dont know what they are gonna do but I truly hope that when this lockout ends the Cardinals come out of the gate fast and hot and get stuff done so we can get ready for the season.

If we limp out of the gate, miss out on a bunch of free agents and wind up in disarray as the season starts and then I see Rod Graves give an interview where he says something like "Uhh well we just weren't as prepared as we wanted to be because nobody really knew when the lockout would end...." I'm going to be very annoyed.

Young is not being considering for the QB. It Will be Kolb, Bulger, Hasselbeck and Orton in that order.

Porter may know the system but it won't get him near the QB. The guy has little if anything left.

Says you. :) Bulger has already stated he has little to no desire to move out of the northeast and start somewhere right now. I would bet money that he is no longer being considered for the Cardinals next QB either.

I agree that the Cards aren't after Young (though I kinda wish he was at least a consideration.) Personally, I really hope we find a way to get Carson Palmer here. Yeah, it's very unlikely, but a girl can dream.

You may be right on Bulger but no way would the Cards consider Young. The guy has some serious mental problems. However, I'm with you 100% on Carson Palmer. He would be my first choice. I didn't put him on my list as Bengal owner Mike Brown would rather have him sit than trade him. Old men can dream too!!:D

How will any6 team be ready to start this season on time. Just look at a normal year.

Timeframe Type of negotiation Total in a year
January-March 1. Restructure or cut vets 3-6
January-May 2. Re-sign own RFAs 8-10
January-July 3. Re-sign own UFAs 4-6
March-April 4. Offer to RFAs on market 1-2
March-July 5. Offer to UFAs on market 4-6
March-August 6. Talk with tagged player 0-1
March-July 7. Offer to cap casualties 2-3
March-September 8. Make trades 0-2
May-August 9. Sign draft picks 6-12
April 10. Sign undrafted rookies 10-17
July 11. Sign supplemental picks 0-1
January-September 12. Injury settlements 2-5
40-70 total moves

This is like throwing all this against a wall and hoping some of it sticks!

Here are the questions that need answering...From the NFL

The Arizona Cardinals are a great example of this perfect storm coming to a head. They are in need of a quarterback (probably by a trade); they only have six offensive linemen under contract and need 15 for camp; they have a total of 49 players under contract and need to sign seven restricted free agents, six draft picks, and somehow sign 28 more players to reach 90.

How do we get this done. I hope those conracts are ready to sign, just fill in the number...

Yeah, I know you are right on Young. Still sucks, thought. But who really knows? He could light it up somewhere or he could suck ass. I think he will land somewhere. I am thinking Minnesota, though Sal Pal from Philly is saying Young might be targeted by the Eagles ... which is another reason I totally hope we do NOT get Kolb. Why trade Kolb to bring in Vince Young? Something isn't right.

And Mike Brown is a total idiot. He should make a trade to get something to help his team. There is no way Palmer plays there. And the Bengals are gonna need some help this year, so do something, man!

Well, when you put it like that, it makes me wanna :barf:. The whole o-line situation just proves we need a mobile QB. That eliminates Bulger and Hasselback. Orton is probably the best option there. Still, Young sounds like the best option for our situation right now.

Trading for B. Wells is making more and more sense for the Bengals. Now that there is a good chance that Benson could get suspended. He is a free agent this season I would be surprised if they resigned him.

Well, if you extend the timelines like you do here, then of course it's going to look complicated. But let's break down these dates a little more:

How will any6 team be ready to start this season on time. Just look at a normal year.

Timeframe Type of negotiation Total in a year
January-March 1. Restructure or cut vets 3-6 Most of the NFL has already done this--look at Jeremy Shockey and O.J. Atogwe
January-May 2. Re-sign own RFAs 8-10 The RFA Tenders have already been done, and they're usually done in mid-February. Once they're done, they're done.
January-July 3. Re-sign own UFAs 4-6 Until July 3? In what world? In Cardinals land, usually if a guy you want to keep is hitting the open market, they're gone when free agency opens the first week of March
March-April 4. Offer to RFAs on market 1-2 There will be a lot fewer RFAs this year, and RFAs are rarely given tender offers.
March-July 5. Offer to UFAs on market 4-6 How is this different than the RFAs above? You're just trying to make your list longer.
March-August 6. Talk with tagged player 0-1 ?????
March-July 7. Offer to cap casualties 2-3 How is this different than free agency?
March-September 8. Make trades 0-2 Trades rarely happen after April, when they do, they're rarely impact trades.
May-August 9. Sign draft picks 6-12 This is more because of a deadline mentality around the NFL than that picks are hard to sign. There's a rookie pay scale in place now, and there may be a deadline for rookies to sign their deal by late July.
April 10. Sign undrafted rookies 10-17 Okay. This is usually done in one or two days; there's no reason it can't be done as quickly once the CBA is done.
July 11. Sign supplemental picks 0-1 LOL.
January-September 12. Injury settlements 2-5 ???? This doesn't happen until the end of training camp, for the most part.
40-70 total moves

This is like throwing all this against a wall and hoping some of it sticks!

Your point has some legitimacy, but the Cards aren't starting from ground zero here.

They should have their best offers for their own players ready to go once the bell rings (which the players won't sign because they'll be 48 hours from free agency, anyway).

They should have their cut list ready to go (hopefully Anderson right away, but they might wait until they have replacements on board)

They should have their UCFA list ready and have contacted guys during the draft. That will be done in 48 hours and have almost zero effect on the final roster.

When the free agency bell rings, it's going to be a disaster and logistical nightmare, but hopefully the Cards' staff isn't overwhelmed. They should have their list of FAs in hand and be ready to execute it.

I'm not going to condemn the Cardinals front office for being clueless until they display that they are. Yes, the time frame is compressed, but it's not so dire that a professional organization shouldn't be able to handle it when they've had literally five months to get a plan in place.

Cue smart-alecky comment: "This isn't a professional organization we're talking about here--it's the Arizona Cardinals." :rimshot:

The list comes directly from an NFL.com article so dont shoot the messenger. He should of linked to it though, so there would be no confusion.

do you really believe that they haven't contacted agents? My bet is that all NFL teams have had negotiations with agents for the last month.

I say not just last month but much longer then that, starting all the way back at the combine when Agents and FO peeps are all in the same building for a week. That week is the NFL's not so secret "tampering" week.

I think there's a good chance the right team picks up Vince Young and makes the rest of the league pay for passing on him. Might even be a team that picks him up as an expensive backup and then actually ends up using him. But I think all of the concerns with him are intensified by the instability of the Cards.

At this late date I would be WAY more comfortable with Orton. In general I prefer Kolb or Palmer because my initial take is that the upside is better. But Orton has put up good numbers in Denver, a market that tends to rattle QBs, while having the backup QB (aka "the most popular player in town") as Tebow. He might be a very serviceable option for the Cards. Again, I'm not doing somersaults if they trade for him, but my stress level definitely goes down.

I don't know if they've done that. Is it allowed?

What I do think is that we'd have signed Kolb months ago but this whole sorry mess muddied everything up. I'm feeling it in my bones: Kolb's signing is one of the first things we announce. Followed quickly by Fitz pushing wheelbarrows full of gold to the bank.
