Again… those beats are the same beats of ANY action movie. But if people can’t see the difference between the absolute insanity that Cruise and Impossible Crew are putting on screen with real/practical effects/stunts versus any other action movie on the market, y’all are blind.

Not saying they aren't well made, impressive or entertaining

Also, more to the initial point - their work on stunts and sequences within a basic action movie framework are the reason why Cruise and company will spend their promotion time talking about stunts, the approach to filming etc - the more questionable beliefs he holds aren't germane to that and he's not going into a MI junket and using that press time to promote those questionable beliefs

When he has sort of blurred that line he's been rightfully and loudly called out on it

In many cases, Hollywood has been as good at the child abuse game as the Catholic church has been.

Ask Woody Allen, Roman Polanski or Harvey Weinstein. Source 1 Source 2

Quentin Tarantino did about as good a job as can be done with this subject. And I think it was mostly a dark comedy IIRC.
You’re equating two people (yes, I’m sure there were more)… to one of the largest institutions in the history of the world who have been raping and abusing children for god only knows how long and have been repeatedly proven to not just do so on a systemic level but covering it up on a global scale?

Lol. Hollywood has its fair share of major problems but, yeah… totally comparable to a LEGITMATE PROVEN global conspiracy by the Catholic Church to groom and abuse children and condone, defend and even promote those responsible. Totally valid comp.

I knew it was stupid to jump into this convo. Thank you proving me right.

Toodles!

Was just making a joke, MO. Had no issue with the point you made, which was spot on.

"Only" clearly implies "only"

That is basic English

Not sure why you are on one about it - again, not that serious..... But sometimes, "God this board"........

Sure whatever...even though it's clear I am saying over 200 million and between 100 and the previously stated level

I left off the word between. You can take that win and I will basically assume you are a pedantic dick
I get it guys. You don’t have to bludgeon me over the head with satirical posts. I know I sometimes carry stupid arguments too far.

Yeah - I was fairly tongue in cheek as well - did want to make sure it was understood I want y looking to discredit what they do within the formula, because it is impressive

I also just wanted to bring back that equating any potential distaste for Caviezel on this topic and the lack of distaste for Cruise in an action movie and how they both run the related press circuits is really a bad line to draw and completely misses the mark

No one is calling sex trafficking nonsense. We are calling the BS crap that Qanon creates around the issue BS crap.
Well, rest assured that none of that made it into the film. The film is clear in its intent to tell a story, as I said earlier.

Get away with what? Posting satire? Funny is always funny. If you don’t like it or take it personal well tough. Not really my concern. You and others around this place have attacked me directly and indirectly for years and lumped me In With “all the others” based off just my profession alone. Not fun is it?

I also noticed you’ve complained about historical accuracy in this thread reference this movie. But based on other movies in here and historical accuracy in those you really don’t have an issue with that CLEARLY. HYPOCRITE MUCH?
Historical accuracy changed for entertainment, fine.

Historical accuracy changed as a venue for disseminating an ulterior motive (Q crap) or glorifying something that may further endanger people, not fine.

Yeah… I love what that crew does. They’re the only ones still doing insane, practical, literal high-wire acts.

Even with that said, I still feel like I need a bit of a shower after because of who and what Cruise reps off screen. But was much harder when he was making himself the face of Scientology. That was a major turn off.
I also just wanted to bring back that equating any potential distaste for Caviezel on this topic and the lack of distaste for Cruise in an action movie and how they both run the related press circuits is really a bad line to draw and completely misses the mark

Shane laughs at this - incredible. BIM calls it "neither right nor left". People are going to straight up ignore all the evidence that this is being pushed by Q-Anon freaks, and push it as neutral content. Incredible. People would rather believe in blood cabals and harvesting children then face reality.

Compared to this nonsense, Sound of Freedom is relatively grounded in our universe. But that mainstream accessibility makes it valuable as a recruitment tool, much as generic “Save the Children” campaigns proved gateways to far-right conspiracy theories about a secret cabal of evil elites conducting blood rituals. On the QAnon message board Great Awakening this week, adherents celebrated the movie’s box-office success (it quickly made back its modest budget of around $14 million and out-earned the latest Indiana Jones sequel on July 4, its premiere date, after the franchise blockbuster had been out for several days) while crowing that “demons,” including movie theater employees annoyed by the demographic it pulled in, were miserable at their victory.

“Do you see how more powerful we are than the legacy news?” wrote one board user. “We are the news now!” On a different thread, someone attempted to prove that Donald Trump‘s endorsement of the film on Truth Social on Thursday was connected to a random Q post from 2018 (because of the time stamps on each). Some discussed efforts to get “normies” who are “in need of awakening” to see Sound of Freedom, including with the assistance of a promotional program that allows customers to buy tickets for strangers. “Crimes against children will unite us all. Eyes are opening,” read one optimistic post, while another was more emphatic still: “We are witnessing true divine intervention.”

And for all the "durr, what about the children" crowd, this is a group that deliberately conflates and lies about child abduction to sell their whacko ideas. The biggest threats to children are always in the family. But who wants to talk about that, when you can talk about harvesting child brains for adenechrome. Deeply unserious country.

The author very clearly outlines the dangers of spreading this crap:

"There is visible suffering all around us in America. There are poor and unhoused, and people brutalized or killed by police. There are mass shootings, lack of healthcare, climate disasters. And yet, over and over, the far right turns to these sordid fantasies about godless monsters hurting children. Now, as in the 1980s Satanic panic, they won’t even face the fact that most kids who suffer sexual abuse are harmed not by a shadowy cabal of strangers, but at the hands of a family member. To know thousands of adults will absorb Sound of Freedom, this vigilante fever dream, and come away thinking themselves better informed on a hidden civilizational crisis… well, it’s profoundly depressing. Worse still, they’ll want to spread the word."

Your virtue signaling is literally laughable. SMH…. The more you all get in a tizzy over a movie that brings some light to such a horrible problem in todays society the bigger my smile gets.

"Virtue Signaling"

Is that what you are doing by lining up with the Q crowd?!

Just a few of the changes I’m sure there is some more. Waiting to be told what in the movie actually pushes Qanon propaganda from those that haven’t even seen it. And even those that have???

It's not what is in the movie, it's what the movie is then being used to promote and even finance

That is the issue I have

I'm not comfortable lining up and giving oxygen to the horrible things that Caviezel and associates are using this film to promote

LOL, amirite? Please define virtue signaling in this situation. Telling people it might not be a good idea to be sharing stuff from people pushing Q Anon insanity is virtue signaling? Interesting...I've heard various theories on "virtue signaling", but that's a new one.

SMH…. The more you all get in a tizzy over a movie that brings some light to such a horrible problem in todays society the bigger my smile gets.
You misunderstand the issue here - the final paragraph seems like something read a couple times and think:

"There is visible suffering all around us in America. There are poor and unhoused, and people brutalized or killed by police. There are mass shootings, lack of healthcare, climate disasters. And yet, over and over, the far right turns to these sordid fantasies about godless monsters hurting children. I liked the movie? So now I’m Qanon? Bahahhahaa

"Virtue Signaling" is a lazy, meaningless, rhetorical device

If your talking points and commentary in regards to the film are the same as the Q crowd, you could be signaling that virtue

The fact you find that laughable, illustrates why it's useless jargon to bring into a discussion

So you're smiling about all this? Really? That says more about you than about the rest of us.

Did you really put propaganda supporting the US interests against Nazis on the same plane as QAnon using this film as propaganda for their conspiracies?!

there is a lot of cherry picking outrage displayed on this thread.

Also the Bee is satire, Onion portrays the same type of satire and certain people cant get enough of it.

Back to the actual movie....

Can we tone down the rhetoric on both sides, please?

Getting caught up, I think we all agree:

- Child trafficking is terrible

- This movie is about exposing child trafficking

- QAnon has been determined to be a bunch of conspiracy theorists and whackjobs

- The movie is based on real events

- The movie may have embellished some things, I guess (I haven't seen the movie or even read anything about it prior to this thread.)

- Sounds like JCaveziel is a QAnon guy

- People who are critical of this movie don't want to further a QAnon cause

- People who are supporting this movie want people to put aside the QAnon nonsense and just bring light to the issue, not support QAnon.

Honestly, it sounds like everyone is on the same page, so I don't know why there's so much volleying.

Yes I did! :) Dude, QAnon uses EVERYTHING to further their conspiracies. Better quit drinking water, because I am pretty sure they have a conspiracy about that. That's what they do. They take things and make arguments about how that supports their theories.

I know internet tone is tricky, so understand this is an honest and well meaning question:

Do you know the central idea that the rest of the QAnon sphere spins around?

"Virtual Signaling" is bizarre. I suggest that the real "Virtual Signaling" is the support of QAnon and giving credence to Ballard and this movie. It is all "protect the children". As a former police officer, I am sure you know that child sexual and physical abuse most often happens within the family, followed by acquaintances, and neighbors. Worldwide trafficking occurs, but is not our major problem. More needs to be done in social support for the real problem.

I don't know if you were in law enforcement in the 1980s, and recall the McMartin day care prosecutions. People were criminally charged with being part of a Satanic cult sexually abusing children in day care facilities throughout the country. It was all b***s***, but peoples' lives were destroyed. That was the ultimate "Virtue Signaling".
