I don't like it.

It seems like forever to wait until April. May would just wipe out the excitement IMO. With April it gives us more time to sign players and work with them.

Edit: forgot the Link

At first blush, that would seem to favor the veteran players. It would shave 3 weeks off the time rookies have to acclimate to a new offense/defense. At least it wouldn't compete with Mother's Day weekend or the Kentucky Derby.

Wonder if they are moving free agency ahead of the Combine? That would make sense if they're moving the draft back.

I get why they are doing it, trying to set offseason milestones more regularly through the lean months will help keep the NFL's profile higher. That being said, since draft day is often the most exciting day of the year for Cardinal fans, I hate delaying it any further.

What is next, one day for each round of the draft, only held on primetime tv?

Imagine all the little issues they will be able to drag up on each and every draft pick with the extra time. Seems like a long wait already between the combine and draft as it is for the draftees. All the extra mocks. I guess those big mock sites will get an extra months worth of traffic during the added time frame. The talking heads will have more screen time on the subject.

I don't like the idea of the NFL Draft crowding the NBA Draft which occurs in the later part of June.

This means 2,234,567 more mock drafts, lol. Just from ASFNers alone!

For as long as I can remember the draft is what we look forward to every year.
Its our best part of the season. Its the time of year where we fans have the most hope and optimism.

Well until the season really starts and we get taken back down to reality.

This will hurt the players period. They now are at their new teams in March. They get playbooks, on field time as well as class time. Coaches get a chance to evaluate with a lot of one on one time. Moving the draft IMO is stupid and would be done with money in mind not the players.

It will not hurt the players all the much if any. In the CBA the players are limited to how much time they can be with the coaches and limited with how much offseason work they can put in both on field and in the film room. Draft being pushed back a few weeks wont change that, the only thing it will change is it will condense the amount of time they are legally allowed to work out, but it will still be the same amount of time. It will only change the amount of time the playbook is in there hands by a few weeks.

And of course it is about money. You think its a coincidence that the draft will now fall during the the TV sweeps period.

What it does do and I am not the one who thought of it, someone on NFL network brought it up. It will make the better drafting teams even better at it. The teams that draft well are the ones that don't get fooled by the workout warriors. Moving the draft back will make the bad run war rooms even worse because they will now spend even more time talking themselves into drafting the workout warriors or talking themselves into doing something they shouldn't do. Idle time is the Devils Playground.

Rookies will get playbooks much later - a ding if you ask me. Also, a lot of the material the cards have been putting out has been pointing at how much more work the rookies get than the vets right now and that would change a bit if the draft isnt until now.

They should move the draft back to the first week of april. I think the NFL should let the fans vote on it.

It makes sense on several different levels.

Keeps NFL relevant over more of the year.

Gives college players more workout/recovery time after the college season. This especially helps out college players coming off injuries. Lattimore probably goes higher if he can show further progress with his rehab. Same arguement could be had for Eddie Lacy and Tank Carradine.

Moves the league year up along with free agency which allows teams to focus on certain positions of need post free agency.

Comes during TV sweeps and takes focus away from NBA and NHL playoffs.
