Special Teams

We rarely talk about special teams but I think special teams got a lot better this weekend. Brandon Williams and Marqui Christian both seem like soecial teams aces due to their speed and both great tacklers. Harlan Miller has also made plays on special teams. Combine them with Bethel and the coverage team should be very good.

Almost think Cards should have drafted a punter however. Our punting has been atrocious and should not be overlooked.

I agree that ST's has been upgraded but think Bethel will not play ST's too much if Williams earns the job of gunner.

Hoping Miller can be our PR guy.

Only 2 punters were drafted so I think we can find an upgrade to Butler in the UDFA ranks.

Boy, I sure hope so. Keim said they may sign 13 or 14 UDFAs, gotta have a punter with one of them.

Never read any indication from the team that they have any issue with the present punter.

BA defends him about his avg with inside 20 #'s etc but he has struggled at times. So an UDFA to challenge Butler would be a good idea IMO. For a FO that says they are always trying to upgrade and for them not to see that Butler isn't great then they should continue to look for great.

Should have added Swanson can also Rugby punt with a run option. A decent but not special kicker. He is ver consistent.

Just signed Garrett Swanson, Fresno State - punter.

It's pretty sad when you are rooting for your team to take a punter...but I am.

LOS is not a position to mess around with. I hope we get more than just one UDFA in camp to compete for that job.

I don't like thinking only special teams contributors until round 6, though admittedly late 5 is pretty close. Williams should be one gunner. Don't dismiss Bouka as the other. You can usually get a couple of these guys as UDFA and use the draft for players with higher upside.
