I'm starting to like this Skelton guy!

The Cardinals just may have gotten the best QB in the 2010 draft... :koolaid:

I like Skelton but you need to get a full look at Skelton before you make up your mind. He has a lot of positives going for him but he isnt quite near the well rounded type of QB we need him to be in terms of accuracy, consistency and . I would suggest you study some more video of him to get the full look at him. Its good be to optimisitic though and this guy could be the future of the Arizona Cardinals.

The fact that we have a very competent coaching staff and the job they have done with our existing talent should give us an optimistic outlook about Skelton.

I hated watching our guys bounce off of Roethlisberger during the SB but I sure did wish we had someone big as an ox like him. Skelton could be that guy.

I really was making more of a statement about the four "big name" QB's in this years draft, than about Skelton. :p

But, you never know...

And i think you may be right in some sense as several well knowledged draft people indicated that they had Skelton in their top 4 QB's of the draft but its still good to be cautiously optimistic.

I strictly look at Skelton as a third string QB for now. Even though he is a rookie, I feel much better about him than BSP as a third string QB. He definitely has the physical tools. Also former BYU QB Max Hall intrigues me.

Don't know if this has been posted already but here is a link to Skelton's interview on KTAR. Very intelligent and well spoken young man. Even when the interviewer started to get off topic Skelton picked right back up on the original question.

Yeah i think there is a thread about this interview but im glad you picked up on it here as it leads to a point i was gonna point. He got a full rode scholarship to Fordham University and i think his intelligence is one of the key reasons that the Cards picked him IMHO. Skelton himself points out in the sports science video how important decision making plays a part in determining the succes of a QB and i think this is an area that Skelton can make one of his strong points as he has good vision, mobility and high inteligence which all make it more likely he can be very good at making quick and good decisions under high pressure.

Cardiac-----I caught that interview as well, and he really is articulate and sharp. He seems to be well grounded and has a plan that he is following. Goal oriented can be a really good thing.

He looks a lot better in the Sports Science video than in the game tape I have seen. His accuracy wasn't really a question, but the way he throws while scrambling. He doesn't appear to square his shoulders and doesn't have any velocity on it either. He seems to have a hard time throwing a spiral too.

I love the signing compared to St. Pierre as the 3rd backup though.

It's interesting but without knowing what good NFL Qb's would do in those same drills it's hard to know just what it means?

They said he tested out better than the other QB's they tested in the draft but didn't say who those Qb's were.

I like his size and arm, at least at first glance he doesn't look like another John Navarre on tape, a guy who had the size but obviously not the game.

Watching Skelton on that sports science show sure impressed the h--- out of me. Bullets through moving hoops with throws that looked like bullets with perfect spirals. I do not know if he got lucky or what but that would have to impress anyone. We may have found the real QB of the future. He is also bright and can move and take a hit. I knew little about this guy. I hope this turns out to be what I think.

Both these prospects brought in under Whizz seem to have things in common; big guys in the R-berger mode.

I don't really want to make a QB take the hits, but R-Berger sure kept a lot of plays alive for the Steelers and made some incredible plays.

Donavan McNabb was the same way, not only his size but his scrambling.

Both these prospects have upper percentile size and they both appear to be able to move really well. Both have strong arms. Both seem to be intelligent guys. (By the way, Max Hall is a local Phoenix-area product by way of BYU).

This is our first look at what Whizz's idea of what he wants in a QB. Anyone else notice that it doesn't resemble Matt?

But take heart Leinart fans, Warner didn't resemble that profile either! LOL!

Granted I havent watched him much, but he seems to have a weird throwing motion. Not just weird, but inconsistent. He looks like a totally different passer while moving then standing still and he seems to have just a touch of that Vince Young "hook" to his throws.

Doesnt mean he cant be good...just sayin'

huh. Interesting.

I'd love to see him beat out Anderson for the #2 spot this year...hell, I'd love for him to legitimately beat out Leinart--he'd be cheaper in the short- to mid-run--but I just don't see it happening.

He has promise, that's for sure. And I think that's what you want in your #3.

Basically, the Cardinals got a slightly bigger version of the strong armed QB they at first wanted in Charlie Whitehurst...in the 5th round...and didn't have to give up a 3rd. Whitehurst has not taken any more snaps in real NFL games to date than Skelton has.

Skelton will need a year or two to assimilate into the system, but it should be fun to watch him grow.

I overheard Jaws talking about Skelton & all I heard was: lazers, frozen ropes, technically sound & quick feet. I'm getting old, so maybe my vision is bad. But I certainly didn't see anything that lacked velocity. His escapability for a huge man is incredible & his throwing motion looks solid. His accuracy on the run looked was great also. My opinion.

Its not just moving hoops. He had to hit the blinking light on 1 out of 3 while being rushed. Its eye to brain to hand cordination that impressed me. Its either you have it or you dont and Skelton has it.

I think that is pretty spot on the throws he made were all done with sound technique and had very good spirals on them. Like everyone has already said he looks very impressive now, but when you look at his footage i think it would be fair that say that he needs to improve his footwork and maintain his throwing mechanics consistently which in his footage appear to fail him at different times in the video. All this said i think he is an already incredibly talent QB who is good enough to be our #3 quarterback right now but with the coaching he will receive and the natural adjustments he makes being around better players i think he could be a great NFL QB.

He will obviously have to learn to take snaps from under center because from every highlight I have seen he was in the shotgun. He does look impressive and sounds intelligent.

I'm surprised that a guy with his measurables didn't get a look from a major college program...not even UTEP which was in his own back-yard. I am guessing it had something to with what kind of offense he was in during High School.

5th round pick, good potential. Perfect 3rd stringer IMO. Hope he turns out to be more. Fun for preseason games I paid full price for lol.

Drafting a kid like this can only be done by a few teams.

No coach in his right mind cares about a kid like this unless he has at least two years of job security in the bank.

Whis does and I love the pick, simply because it speaks to their talent evaluation, that kid will most likely start in the NFL, just not right away.

Anyone with that size, that arm and a brain can make the cut but they need time and that's a precious commodity in today's NFL, having a coach that is able to even look past this year helps with getting a player like this that others wouldn't mess with.

It'll take one year just to teach him how to play in a pro style offense, and another year just to work the pro techniques into his game so that he dosen't have to think about it.

After that I'd bet big money he starts in the NFL someday, hope it's for us and that he's as good as he looks.

I just have a weird feeling about this kid, mostly because of how under the radar it was, and how goofy it worked out.

It could be one of the most momentus moments in our franchises history and it was hardly an after thought to most people and the sports world.

Whis played some QB in college, Whis worked for everything he's ever gotten, hard.

Whis knows QB's and what he likes, love the story about him driving his tape around and getting a full scholarship out of it, awesome story.

There's just something about this kid's story that I figure isn't done yet at all.

Oh an I love LOVE the fact Chris Miller is our QB coach, that guy knows his stuff in a serious way, had a hard time staying healthy but he could light it up.

He'll get the kid ready.
