A minor league player in the New York Yankees system has tested positive for coronavirus, sources tell ESPN. He is the first known case in baseball. He was quarantined Friday morning after saying he was running a fever.

The Yankees player who tested positive for coronavirus was only on the minor league side of the team's facility in Tampa. Still, as we're learning about coronavirus' ability to spread, that distance alone does not necessarily protect those who are nearby from contracting it.

The MLBPA informed players they should consider living where they feel most comfortable for “at least” the next 4-6 weeks, according to sources. “There’s still a ton of uncertainty and this is evolving in real time each day,” one source said.

The #Yankees are not divulging the identity of the minor league player who tested positive for coronavirus, per HIPAA.

The New York Yankees have told all their minor league players that they should quarantine for two weeks, sources told ESPN. The team will deliver food to the players in their hotel rooms.

Eight weeks from today is May 10. The expectation is it would take 2-3 weeks to ramp things back up, so we could be looking at an Opening Day around June 1, perhaps even later.

Recent MLB memo stated teams can not shut down spring-training camps. Thus, reports of #Mets closing complex are not entirely accurate. Facility is completely closed to organized workouts, open for players to use gym or receive individualized treatment, source says.

Thank you for posting that, Ronin. My son, daughter-in-law, grandson and I were
there on March 1st for the D-backs-Indians game. They live in Goodyear.

My son and grandson were at field level for the kids running the bases.

Hopefully, nothing to worry about, but helpful to know.

I wonder the ramifications of MLB loses the entire 2020 season.
