There is a feeling of inevitability among executives that Major League Baseball will be suspending spring training as soon as today, sources tell ESPN.

A conference call among Major League Baseball owners is scheduled soon. With the mass cancellations of sporting events around the country, MLB is facing enormous pressure to follow suit. While nothing is official, baseball is expected to have an announcement at some point soon.

There is an eerie feel to camp here today. Players have been working out, but everyone is waiting to hear what the commissioner’s office will decide to do.

After a conference call among owners this afternoon, Major League Baseball is expected to suspend spring training. The league likely will delay the beginning of the regular season as well. At this point, it's a formality that ownership-level sources expect to happen.

MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark: “Players are of course disappointed they won’t be able to compete on the field. At the same time, they recognize the importance of public health and safety.”

Leaders from the Major League Baseball Players Association and MLB will meet tonight to discuss a variety of issues related to player concerns, sources tell ESPN. Some players have expressed concern about remaining in camp and want instead to leave and be with their families.

Need the backstory to this one...

https://arizonasports.com/story/228...weigh-in-as-leagues-close-locker-room-access/

D-backs relief pitcher Andrew Chafin was dismissive Monday of fears about coronavirus and said he was not hesitant to sign autographs or shake hands.
“I ain’t worried about it. I’ll go in and wash my hands afterwards,” he said. “We had a meeting the other day and they were saying something about how there’s been — I don’t know if I got this right — but like 18,000 deaths because of the flu, and we’re worried about 30 [in the U.S.] from the coronavirus. It’s the same thing, basically. I think the media overplayed it a little bit.”

Ah thx... Thought he may have made an anti-Semitic rant or something based on @AZCB34 reaction lol.

When I accessed Ticketmaster about a refund for my ticket to the next to last
pre-season game (at Chase Field), the site said to not contact them and refunds
will be issued in time.

But it also said it excludes MLB. We'll see about that! If so, I am not going to take
it lying down. $68.02 is $68.02. And I'll bet they will not issue a full refund if
they do. The site I was led to originally was TICKETCITY and I was surprised to
see that they deal through Ticketmaster, who purchased the tickets.

Everybody makes out OK, except for the consumer. Bastards! I don't see a
finger smiley.

My son and I are in FL for spring training games and we were told refunds would be coming. I suspect it will be full refund for ticket price but we will lose transaction fees.

They're saying now that there will be a 2-week delay in starting the
regular MLB season.

If that happens, I wonder if they'll tack on those two weeks to the
end of the regular season. That would cause the least disruption.

I suspect the season gets shortened. Can't be playing world series in mid to late November.

Multiple Major League Baseball teams have started allowing players to go home, sources tell ESPN. Some will stay in Arizona. Others will go to their teams' cities. Others will just go home. Unclear when they'll return, though MLB will need a ramp-up period before it starts games.

Some MLB teams believed that keeping the players together and in ST sites enhanced the odds they would stay healthy; other clubs argued that once somebody in a clubhouse became sick (inevitably), then many others would, as well. Now most of the players will head home, apparently.
