Mike Jurecki on "From the Bleachers" repeating a big trade rumor involving the St Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks--Shawn Springs and Walter Jones to STL for Orlando Pace. Springs and Jones are represented by same agent, who wants to get them signed as "package deal." Jurecki thinks this explains Rams moving Aeneas Williams to safety, in order to make room for Springs.

Let it be noted that this rumor was first posted on everyone's favorite rumor site, profootballtalk.

So, take it with a grain of salt, but it does make more sense than most rumors.

BULLSH*T....

wont happen! I am glad Jurecki gets his info from profootballtalk. So much for his credibility

EDIT: That was abit harsh. Perhaps this trade could work, but I want to know the source prior to beleiveing it. Especially since these teams are division rivals. You dont really see this much!

It was irresponsible reporting for Jurecki to present that as a news item.

Why would the Seahawks trade for another OL who is asking for a big contract? Doesn't make sense. Pace for Springs and Jones is not even enough for the caliber of Pace.

This just doesn't smell right to me.
Walter Jones is an all pro tackle.
To give up him AND Springs for Pace?

I just can't believe they would do that.

The Seattle fans would go ballistic.

And as for the Rams moving Aeneas to safety.....
I'm not up on that, but my first reaction would be, that may have more to do with Aeneas's declining skills than anything.

That seems to be a common move for older, "leaders", who have slowed down a step or two.

Yes but Pace isn't pissed and holding out for a contract that would hurt Fort Knox

Calvin or Orlando? Orlando wants a $30 mil. signing bonus.

Walter Jones wants to be the highest-paid OT in the league (I forget who is the highest-paid OT in the game right now, but I think it's Jonathan Ogden in B-more, right?), and Seattle wants him to be the 2nd-highest paid. That sounds a lot closer to closing the deal than Pace, who is insane.

Tango:

Supposedly, the Hawks are very high on Marcus Trufant, and don't think they need Springs. (At least, as much as they need the cap room and roster spot.) There might well be other considerations from the Rams side (e.g., 2004 draft choice, cash) that we haven't heard about.

Jurecki presented this as a rumor, and sounded plenty skeptical--particularly about a deal between division rivals--but said there was a lot about the deal that would make sense, if true.

Stay tuned.

Obviously Trufant is a "hometown" favorite, having played at WSU.

Jones is a very popular player in Seattle. For that matter, Springs is too.

It indeed will be interesting to see if anything develops here, but I would have to think the Seahawks would get more than what's presently suggested.

This would be a very risky debut for Fergy.

This is similar to the wild rumor last week having the Bears sending David Terrell to SF for Scott Gragg. Wild rumor that gets some legs for a day before press releases are sent out denying anything of the sort is happening.

I will echo what a couple have said but it bears repeating:

No way does this trade happen within a division.

Somebody would have to explain how the Rams could get both guys into their cap when they are but $1 million under it right now.
