Good thing we got Robin Lopez, eh, Ouchie? ;)

Having a shot blockr becomes even more important if Maggette, Manu, and Parker are all trying to get inisde.

BTW, while Maggette has always given the Suns problems, he seems to have routine problems with his coaches. This year is the first in several years where he has started most of his games. Contract year?

Why the heck should we care that much about matching up with the Spurs? The Lakers won the west and with Bynum's return should be even better. We lost all 4 games to the Hornets last year and for the second straight year lost the season series to the Jazz (now 2-7 against them in the last 2 seasons).

Because every year we have to go through the Spurs and fail. So, if the Spurs, Hornets, Lakers all get better, why would you not be concerned with this move? You have to be concerned with any moves teams make that we will face come playoff time.

Don't have it or won't spend it?

The most the Suns could offer ANYBODY is the MLE, starting at a bit under $6 million. Maggette can reasonably expect a deal at least $9 million range to start. Mobley gets $9 million year and he's not the impact player that Maggette is.

Let's stop pretending the unwillingness of the Suns to enter the "name" players bidding war has anything to dow with being cheap. The rules preclude over the cap teams offering more than the MLE and none of these guys will settle for that.

Just saw on ESPNEWS that the Celtics offered Maggette a contract; I'm guessing it's the full MLE.

Maggette will end up with the Spurs unless either Philly or GS offer him a contract significantly over the MLE. Both of these teams are loaded at the wing so it seems unlikely that they will expend resources at that position. Barry will likely be back with the Spurs. He has been quoted in San Antonio that he had 1 year at the vet minimum, but he wants 2. The Spurs will likely give that to him. Word is that his family really likes it in SA and doesn't want to move. Horry is likely back for the vet minimum. If they can't swing a trade w/ NJ for Krstic then they are likely to re-sign Kurt Thomas as well. Word is that they offered Carlos Delfino the LLE for 2 years also. I think Finley is done with the Spurs.

I wouldn't completely rule out Charlotte which has enough cap space to give moret than MLE. They have the pieces for a great small ball team if they added Maggette (played at Duke):

PG - Felton/Augustine
SG - Jason Richardson/Carroll
SF - Magette
PF - Wallace
C - Okafor

It's sad when the Suns cannot lure their past players back. KT will likely not come back to Phoenix because of Shaq and Lopez but I certainly wouldn't mind to have Finley back for the veteran minimum. I still think Finley can hit some big shots and the Suns need shooters.

James Jones is supposedly one of the players the Pistons is looking at.

With both Phlly and GS in the mix, the chances of either the Spurs or the Celtics getting Maggette for the MLE becomes less likely. IMHO, he's worth more than the MLE.

My money is on GS. They are down to $36.7$ http://www.storytellerscontracts.info/resources/08-09salaries.htm in contracts. Just the Pietrus contract alone was $6.5 million, which is more than the base number in the MLE. Baron was at $17.2 million and Barnes was at $3.9; so there is money to go after both Maggette and Brand.
