Well its a little different when you prove your the dominant team and blow someone off the court! The Mavs won a close one in game won and acted like they owned the Spurs. The Spurs responded by kicking their asses from start to finish Dallas never sniffed a lead. One win is definately more impressive than the other, in the words of Marion .... "know what I'm sayin!"

And like we are again, from the tone of the posts on here.

Vegas has this game as a pick em which shows little confidence in Portland. Even Oklahoma City is getting -3 on the Lakers at home.

Where is greensborohill? Big talk and then disappears. I'm betting he will be back if the Mavs win tonight. If not, he is probably AWOL for a while.

don't mistake one fan for fans. One fan on here said the mavs would blow out the spurs.

The point I have made is that the mavs, unlike most other WC teams(outside of the lakers), have actually beat the spurs in the playoffs. dominance or not the mavs have had the upper hand on the spurs over the last 4 years. I think most people felt that this series would be the best first round series in the playoffs. the spurs/mavs rivalry is the toughest in the NBA right now according to most experts. My point has been that the mavs have beat the spurs recently(playoffs/reg season matchups). But myself, and most other knowledgeable fans, have never said that this would be easy. The spurs big 3 is intact and if given support they will be tough for anyone to beat much less a mavs team that has had the upper hand on them. I still think the mavs are the better team, but i can't imagine that this series doesn't go 6 or 7 games.

what I find sad is it wasn't until the 4th quarter of the game that the mavs played with some kind of emotion. If not for caron butler the mavs would not have sniffed that game. the guy seems like he is the only mavs player that sniffs gun powder b4 a game. I wish they would follow his lead. jason terry appeared as if he could be a factor again. but in the 4th quarter he fell in love with a jumpshot miss as usual. i figured he would have learned that going to the basket could pay off based on what he did in the first half. I wish they would play beaubois!

So how good is this season's Mavs team compared to the team that made it to the Nba finals?

^ Thats what I am saying its not like they blew out the Spurs! Their acting as though they own the Spurs and regular season records is enough to go by. Sorry I respect and hate Popovich and he is the better coach in this series and coaching matters in the playoffs where it is all about game planning and adjustments.
the mavs have played well against them in the playoffs and regular season. until the last two games. Outstide of dirk they look completely lost.

only time will tell. right now not looking as good. they seem like they don't have the confidence of that team aside from dirk. barea definitely is not a guy that is condusive to playing the type of defense that you need to play to win in the playoffs. yet the mavs coach just enjoys wathcing him get torched play after play. he seems to think jason kidd is a forward i guess.

Both of these teams look very beatable with Robin Lopez, especially the Spurs because I think Lopez could bother this old Duncan.

this is the only tough first round matchup. of corse they look beatable when they are beating up on each other. it will be totally different for the suns when they are playing a tough matchup. even if it is the nuggets or jazz the suns will have their hands full in the next round against a team that can actually score the ball.

I don't disagree with this but you could easily reverse it. I think any of the Nuggets, Jazz, Spurs and Mavs group would have their hands full with us also. I'd make the Mavs slight favorites over us but it wouldn't shock me to see the Suns in the finals. There isn't a huge gap between any of the first 6 teams unless the Lakers return to form.

I wouldn't take the suns lightly at all. I was responding to a post that was the other way around. mavs/spurs is a very physical matchup and more of a beatdown matchup than the other series. hence both teams aren't seperating themselves from the opponent like you've seen in the other series. you can't make comparisons just yet...but don't worry the suns will get their chance soon.

I cannot believe that carlisle has gone with a 3 guard lineup with jason kidd playing forward for 2 whole quarters. SA can just kill them on the offensive end at will if they drive to the hoop.

Did butler sit the entire 2nd half?

Spurs win. Did Marion get hurt? He only played fifteen minutes in this game.

yes...their most physical player sat out the entire 2nd half alongside marion.

carlisle opted to play barea, terry, and kidd for the entire 2nd half. It makes no sense to me. I can understand doing it for a offensive spark. but in the fourth quarter they were all worthless and he just stayed with them anyway. Next time i hear the coach preach defense i'm just going to laugh.

nope carlisle opted to play jason kidd at forward for the entire second half. I thought kidd was one of the best point guards in the game? I guess he's a forward now lol.

Marion has a habit of disappearing against the Spurs.
well he did tonight....literally. so did butler. they sat them for the entire second half in favor of playing 3 point guards??? terry/barea/and kidd trying to guard manu/hill/bonner/mcdyess? I'm glad that NBA tv is ripping the mavs coach now. I thought I was just crazy at first. His answer was he wanted more penetration? I'm pretty sure kidd, terry, and barea were just jacking failed jump shots rather than penetrating. At least marion and butler slash to the basket.

Couldn't ask for much more. Got to see Ginosebleed live up to his name, Dirk choke, both teams beat each other up and Dallas eventually lose.

Short of someone walking to center court and dividing by zero...
