I think many of us underestimate stability of a coaching staff. We tend to want to fire this coach or fire that coach when things don’t go quite as well as we hoped. Sometimes it is justified such as the Wilks decision.

I think the Giants made a mistake firing Shumur. The organization churned that roster losing weapons like OBJ. They were in a qb transition and toward the end Jones started to show some real progress. Now their rookie qb along with their entire personnel will have to learn an entirely new offense.

I believe the Cards have put together a very good staff. It’s important to allow this staff to cement their foundation and process. Every time you replace a coach you restart the player evaluation. It’s back to step one. It’s a setback.

The Bills hired McDermott in 2017 and snuck into the playoffs (9-7). In 2018 they slipped to 6-10. I’m sure there were fans believing 2017 was a mirage and wanted changes. Here we are in 2019 and they are in the playoffs with a 10-6 record.

And here’s the amazing thing. Only 11 players on the 2017 playoff team remain on today’s roster! Players come and and go. A stabilized system and staff allows an organization to identify their personnel weaknesses and target players that help fix those weaknesses.

Every good team has it. Look no further than Seattle, New England, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City, New Orleans as prime examples. Why? Stability.

It doesn’t mean you’ll win a Super Bowl every year. In fact it doesn’t gaurantee you’ll EVER win a Super Bowl. But it appears it’s the way to be competitive year after year.

it’s like building a jigsaw puzzle. You start by building the frame. I think we have built that frame. Now we are separating the colors and finding the right pieces.

It’s asking a lot of us following a team that has lost way more then they’ve won to be patient. But I believe we need to give this staff some time to let the roots of of their process grow.

Quick P.S. I simply love everyone’s passion on this site. Our season ended less than a week ago and we have threads with literally thousands of opinions, thoughts and answers of how to improve this team. Awesome.

Patience is key.

unfortunately we live in the era of “what have you done for me lately.” That’s not good news for bumbling coaches and GMs. Unless you work for Jerry Jones.lol

Teams make bad hires just like normal people do.

I would question what Shurmur ever did to get hired. Good OC...maybe.

Not exactly a stellar 2018 HC cycle either:

Shurmur did just that. He was a very good OC. My point is now the Giants are going to tear it apart and the rookie Qb and the offense is going to face learning a whole new offense instead of adding talent around him with “ stability”. Can you really blame Shurmur in this situation when they basically gutted this team?

they should have given him one more year but, it is NY you need to show of something in two years and he didn't, now maybe the next HC can bring something, but for the O and D it will be something new and they maybe will improve 1-2 games max, on the other hand it's the NFC East and with 7-8 wins you can be playoff bound...

Fine line between stability and getting stagnant.

Every team called out in the initial post has a franchise QB. Kansas City switched over s lot of coaches before Reid and Mahomes got there.

I would have kept Arians if they would rebuilt.

Chiefs went through a few mediocre coaches between Dick Vermeil and Andy Reid (Todd Haley was a toxic jerk and Herm Edwards had let the NFL pass him by) but I don’t remember any hire by any NFL team worse than Steve Wilks. I am just happy to have a competent coach in Kliff Kingsbury. No fan base should ever endure a coach like Wilks. Never again

For better or worse, we have to ride with (at least for another season) Keim (ugh), KK and Vance . Have to have some continuity in the D , is Vance the answer? I have no idea but we'll find out soon enough
