I think many of us underestimate stability of a coaching staff. We tend to want to fire this coach or fire that coach when things don’t go quite as well as we hoped. Sometimes it is justified such as the Wilks decision.
I think the Giants made a mistake firing Shumur. The organization churned that roster losing weapons like OBJ. They were in a qb transition and toward the end Jones started to show some real progress. Now their rookie qb along with their entire personnel will have to learn an entirely new offense.
I believe the Cards have put together a very good staff. It’s important to allow this staff to cement their foundation and process. Every time you replace a coach you restart the player evaluation. It’s back to step one. It’s a setback.
The Bills hired McDermott in 2017 and snuck into the playoffs (9-7). In 2018 they slipped to 6-10. I’m sure there were fans believing 2017 was a mirage and wanted changes. Here we are in 2019 and they are in the playoffs with a 10-6 record.
And here’s the amazing thing. Only 11 players on the 2017 playoff team remain on today’s roster! Players come and and go. A stabilized system and staff allows an organization to identify their personnel weaknesses and target players that help fix those weaknesses.
Every good team has it. Look no further than Seattle, New England, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City, New Orleans as prime examples. Why? Stability.
It doesn’t mean you’ll win a Super Bowl every year. In fact it doesn’t gaurantee you’ll EVER win a Super Bowl. But it appears it’s the way to be competitive year after year.
it’s like building a jigsaw puzzle. You start by building the frame. I think we have built that frame. Now we are separating the colors and finding the right pieces.
It’s asking a lot of us following a team that has lost way more then they’ve won to be patient. But I believe we need to give this staff some time to let the roots of of their process grow.
